GDT 5/5/21: Braves @ Gnats - Fried Returns

I would say it's a tie between him and Riley

If this is for real - no one expects him to stay this good, but if he can be a legitimate offensive threat - and you're buying Riley, there's not much of a reason not to do whatever it takes to extend Freddie.

You'd only need one of Waters/Harris/Franklin to succeed for this offense to be good enough to compete for the next 4-5 years.

Unless Freddie regresses like normal first basemen over 30

For those slapping themselves on the back about how good they are with Braves record posting game threads. Today's line up has been posted for almost 30 minutes now.

And for all of those clamoring for Freddie to sit until he regains his hitting ability, you got your wish. Riley is at 1B, Adrainza is at 3rd. Albies hitting 2nd, Mathis hitting 8th.

Bobby Sunday Special.

You're going to have to pay for part of that regression - or try to explain to a boatload of really *issed off fans why you let him go.

My biggest problem with people that don't want to pay for that regression ignore the fact that that's something you do with the massive savings you're getting from the Acuna and Albies deals. Is Freddie going to get a little more than you wish you were paying him during the last couple years of a new deal? Sure. Use the millions and millions you're going to save while the best player on the planet is leading off and playing RF for peanuts to offset that money.

I think this confirms that Freeman has an injury. Hopefully nothing major. That hit on his elbow didn't look direct or even all that hard, so the fact that it could've caused this big of an issue is...worrisome, to say the least.

Not entirely sure the day off can be attributed to his "injury" - Ozuna, Riley, and Dansby have also played every game too. Snitker has to eventually give these guys a day off whether he wants to or not.

I agree it's probably been bothering him a bit, but if it was bad enough that he needed to sit for a day or two surely they wouldn't have waited this long to give him that break.

Just saying... extensions for first basemen over 30 usually don't go well.
