January 6th insurrection thread...

For the record, it is standard practice as it should be. thethe just doesn't think it is because he didn't like the results this time. I'm sure he was cool with the standard audits that happened in NC and FL in 2020 and the same audits that happened across the country in 2016, oddly enough.

You seem to have this weird notion that a recount is a full audit.

I’m going to chalk it up to willful ignorance and move on.

Interesting to see which states actually have audit procedures in place vs. states that either require no form of audit or can't do any form of audit because they don't even have paper ballots. Definitely a common trend among the latter.

That is certainly not been concluded. But these types of things happen with a difficult non helpful client.

Or they happen when people who've never ran an election audit run one. It would be like someone trying to bake in someone else's kitchen. Except this person has never baked anything ever before in their lives, and they don't speak the language of the house of the kitchen they're in.

I’d love a full forensic audit. That isn’t hard.

Now tell me why the democrats have fought it every step of the way?

Have you even ventured into the volumes of analytical research done to show how improbable Biden’s numbers were? I’m guessing not since you believe Florida makes up numbers, Hunter Biden’s laptop was a Russian disinformation tactic and up until recently thought the ccp virus was natural occurring.

Have they fought it every step of the way, or do they not want Trumpkins threatening people who didn't vote for the former wannabe dictator?

I think a thorough and sifting audit of every federal election in every state should be the norm. It shouldn't be something that either party tries to implement. It should be standard practice every time.

Many states audit elections. Usually it's random. Making sure there was no irregularities, etc.

What the republicans are attempting to do isn't an audit, it's a witchhunt.

A "sifting" audit? What are you looking for? There's redundancy all through the voting and counting process.

@JohnCornyn

The 1/6 attack on the Capitol was horrific & appalling. Those who planned & participated

in the violence that day should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I agree w/Speaker Pelosi – a 911-type investigation

is called for to help prevent this from happening again.

GOP Lies Fueled The Capitol Riot. Of Course They Don’t Want A Panel To Expose That.
House Republicans opposed to a Jan. 6 commission also spread lies of a stolen election — the same lies that led to the insurrection. They know that.

So much of the lashing out against the GOP on this is based on the assumption that this commission would be some kind of completely unbiased investigation. This author does it (poor journalistic standards from the Huffington Post is not surprising). The problem is that this commission almost certainly would be anything but an unbiased investigation.

Would the commission put any blame on the Democrat mayor of DC who failed to be prepared? Would there be any backlash on delays in calling in the National Guard? Would there be any condemnation of Capitol Police essentially escorting rioters into the building? Of course not. The commission's goals would be to pin everything that happened on as many GOP members as possible and drag things on as close to the 2022 election.

How do I know this is what would happen? Because flip the script. If a riot of Hillary supporters had broken into the Capitol after the 2016 election, what would the GOP have done? This exact same thing. And what would the Democrats have done in response? Exactly what the GOP is doing now.

Partisan politics is the easiest thing in the universe to predict.

you gave yourself away and threw away any if not all impartiallity weighing the value of partisanship by inserting the (own the libs) Joseph McCarthy thumb in the eye slur of " Democrat Mayor".

Y
of course it is partisan --- are you new to politics ?

I often use Democrat to save keystrokes, especially when I'm typing on a phone. I also feel it's more grammatically correct and less confusing than Democratic. The term "democratic mayor" could have several interpretations. So using democrat as an adjective is no slur for me.

And I'm calling it out as partisan in response to those who try to portray it as a noble effort being derailed by guilty Republicans. It's not a noble effort. It's a partisan tactic by one party that is being opposed by the other for partisan reasons.

I do think the GOP is playing it wrong. I think they be better served to draft their own bill for an investigation. One that has the appearance of being more objective but also has ways of derailing the investigation. The democrats would of course refuse and it would give the Republicans ammunition to show the democrats are just trying to start a witch hunt.

In any event, people need to stop acting scandalized that republicans are trying to stop a partisan tactic by democrats.

There is also the not so small detail that the events of January 6 themselves have a heavy partisan element. By definition any thorough investigation will include some uncomfortable revelations about that.

The irony of Trump making this statement given what is going on in Arizona is truly amazing.

"There is nothing more corrupt than an investigation that is in desperate search of a crime."

the very poorly chosen one era has been the golden age of unintended irony
