Well it falls within the ambit of public policy, given that it receives funding directly and indirectly from various levels of government. For example, many of the students are enrolled in ROTC and go on to military careers. I would think our military services would have a public policy interest in the kind of environment the students affiliated with ROTC have to deal with. Take away ROTC and VMI probably goes out of business or becomes a very different kind of business. The thing I hope comes out of it is VMI makes a good faith effort to address the issues highlighted in the report. No one is perfect. We can all get better.

Would that mean the minorities aren't enduring racism? Or does the whole "you can't be racist against the white race" cancel that out? It all gets confusing when looked at through my privilege monocle.

Of course. But my assumption is the military services want their officers and enlisted men and women to come up the ranks through an equitable system. If for some reason fewer minorities and women sign up for ROTC, I would imagine they would want to look at the reasons for that. Maybe it's because they aren't interested in a military career. That's fine. But if the reason is that there is something about the environment at VMI or any of the other feeder schools, then something should be done about that.

Virtually none of the white cadets in the study reported discrimination while almost half of the black cadets did, so I'm not sure where that claim comes from. I guess sure, if it will make you willing to look into minority discrimination we can also consider claims of racism against white cadets.
It is amazing how unwilling white conservatives are to accept that there are problems in society that we can fix if we just acknowledge them. Even more amazing in recent months when they have become the poster children for claiming victimhood and trying to cancel anyone that calls them Karen.

It's more fun and easy to poke fun at the excesses of wokeness.
But it is possible (indeed likely) that we live in a world where wokeness does have its excesses AND racism is real and needs to be addressed as a policy issue.

Can you explain to me how naming something after the place it came from is racist or discriminatory? Looking through my monocle of generational wealth and from my high perch of Appalachian privilege I'm not making it out.

No doubt Kung Flu is deliberately pejorative. The other examples you provided are no more or less pejorative than Wuhan Flu or China Virus in my mind, which is not at all. Just like Nashville singer, Atlanta rapper, Denver remodeling specialist, NY mob boss, Colombian cartel. It's a pretty common sense and standard form of referring to something.

Ultimately, it's all about context and how it's being used. There is a long history of the 1918 flu pandemic being named the Spanish Influenza despite not originating in Spain and the impact that it had on how other European citizens viewed Spain at the time. Other European countries censored coverage of the pandemic, but Spain didn't- ultimately the other European countries jumped at the chance to blame it on them.
The intent behind calling it Kung Flu or Chinese Virus was pretty clear, particularly when you consider the source and the fact that everyone knows what you're talking about if you say Covid-19 or coronavirus but you're choosing to call it the Chinese Virus instead (see photo)- the added specificity is purely to rile people up against a rival country.
I would also draw a distinction between naming something after where it originated and naming something after an ethnicity. I don't really have a problem with the Wuhan Virus, tbh, particularly as it seems to be proven that it originated there one way or another. But I do have a problem with the Chinese Virus or Kung Flu. For example, we call it Lyme Disease because it originated in Lyme, Connecticut. I would have a much bigger issue if it were referred to as the American Disease.
