Yup. On this day a year ago the American government used military helicopters and tear gas to disperse a peacefully protesting group of Americans. A government-sponsored attack on constitutional rights to assembly and expression. In our country. By our government. Some of those involved in this attack on constitutional rights have expressed regret about it. Others not.

But in all seriousness, I'm not sure this is news? A quick skim of articles from back then show CNN and Washington Post both reporting that the original order to clear the square came days before Trump's photo op.

"Barr and other top officials from agencies responsible for securing the White House had previously planned to secure a wider perimeter around Lafayette Square, a federally owned green space just north of the building, in response to fires and destruction caused by protestors on Sunday night.
That plan, developed earlier Monday, would have cleared the area later used for the President's walk to the nearby St. John's Episcopal Church for a photo-op by 4 p.m. ET, the official said."

"One senior administration official said that Trump and other senior White House officials wanted the perimeter pushed back to I Street NW and that they expected it to happen earlier in the day. “We weren’t saying to push it back just so he could go to the church,” the official said. “That was not the reason it was pushed back.”

"Other administration officials said the move to clear the crowd was part of a previously planned effort to extend the perimeter around Lafayette Square. Two federal law enforcement officials said that authorities decided either late Sunday or early Monday to broaden it by one block and that Barr participated in those discussions."
