With Acuña dogging it to third, the obvious option would've been for Guillorme to tag RAJ or third base. That said, Guillorme's momentum was all going forward and he didn't have eyes in the back of his head--even though Lugo was yelling at Guillorme to go to third.

Won a game by not getting a ball out of the infield. While I feel fortunate to win this game, I'll just be a homer and say we were due.

I'll take it too, but this is really where the team needs to assert itself and go 7-2 or 8-1. Got the Rays and Padres coming out of the break.

We were lucky tonight in the ninth inning on balls in play in the infield and the Mets were lucky on Tuesday that our manager is brain dead. It feels nice for a change to have the other team feel like they've been kicked in the nuts.

I wanna upgrade Smith, so I'm not taking up for him.... his fWAR is much higher than melancon's though. Take that for what it's worth

Smith has been better than Melancon this year by every meaningful statistical measure.

Looked like Guillorme's momentum was taking him towards a little further up the baseline,, so no guarantee he gets the out. But it probably would have been the better play regardless. Of course, if he misses it then every Mets reporter and fan would chastise him for not making the throw to first
