Game Thread- July 3rd, 2021. Miami Marlins (34-46) at Atlanta Braves (40-41)

Maybe so, but I'll stand by that no one should try to run in front of FF or Acuna

It was an offensively starved afternoon... he’s one of the best base stealers in the majors... he was trying to get in scoring position, not pad his damn stats. Come on.

He's 4th in SB, but here's the top 5 in %...
1. Merrifield 23/24 (.958)
2. Turner 18/21 (.857)
3. Tatis 17/19 (.895)
4. Acuna 16/22 (.727)
5. Edman 15/18 (.833)

He gets caught too often to run in front of FF.

If Kevin smith is in the team they need to bring up Ajax so we can pinch hit. Snit won’t pinch hit for smith without a third catcher

I was going to say something to this effect. A third catcher used to be standard operating procedure before the era of enlarged pitching staffs. In any amalgamation, our bench is pitiful.

I get the wasted PA complaint, but in this era of short benches can you really afford to empty out the bench in the fifth inning? The counterargument is that the bottom half of our line-up is so putrid and the margin of error is so low for the team that you can't not pinch-hit in that situation. I can see it either way. Separate from the pinch-hitting decision, Muller's pitch count was in the mid-80s and he shouldn't have gone back out there for the 6th.

Was anyone else concerned by Muller's fairly steep drop in velocity? In the second & third it was so pronounced I was certain he was injured...

For the record, Acuna is our best player. We aren't winning crap without him. My constant rant about him after the 7th inning is just nonsense... eventually those numbers will balance out. Now the running in front of FF is serious. He can't do that. When someone is on in front of FF or Acuna, they have to sit tight

No…his numbers in the later innings are awful…completely awful…they won’t balance out this season

I don’t mind Acuna running there. People have gotta get out of the mindset that you just sit back and wait on the bomb. Bottom line is this - you can bitch all you want about whatever move Snit makes, and much of the bitching is warranted, but if you can’t score runs you won’t win many games. A change is needed now and for the life of me, I do not understand why Arcia is still in AAA and why it took so long to start putting him in LF there.

Derek deitrich is opting out minor league contract with Yankees. Wouldn't he be a better option than panda?

Panda probably spent all his mojo those first couple of weeks but if we are going to keep him on the roster, should probably think about giving him a start somewhere along the way for a couple extra ABs.

This is a good point. Acuna is getting caught too often, and all those caught stealings are negatively impacting the offense. Previous analysis told us something like 75% was the break even point. I’m not sure if it’s still the same, but fact of the matter is he hasn’t been very efficient at it this year so far.

Marlins only have 3 lhh (1 is a switch, Leon), and all 3 are bad hitters. No jazz today, and Duvall starting. Morton, you should chew this lineup up... please do. Offense, score 4-5 runs!

So what you’re saying is 8-2 loss incoming? We are due for a bad starting performance and that pitching has been carrying us with a team that can’t hit with RISP and a bullpen that either blows leads or gives everyone heart attacks in the process of barely hanging onto them.
