Trades/acquisitions

Robinson Chirinos was cut by Yankees. He's been awful this year, but really solid for years coming into this season. Smith and Contreras are horrible. Should we?

I'd be up for anyone over Smith. I do not think Contreras is horrible. I think it's asking a lot of him to to consistently hit given his number of at bats above AA. I very much believe that he's a good hitter. I think he may be getting worn down some and that is evidenced by increases in Smith's starts. I'd take AJax over Smith.

We are still in it. I just do not believe in this team. I wouldn't make any deals unless one of the below is true:
1. This is a deal that makes us better in 2022 and beyond. I'd even be warry of deals that only get us through 2022 given the shortened season we'll have next year due to labor issues.
2. It's really cheap. Those rental deals where you're trading someone you've never heard of.

I'm not making a judgement on Contreras long term, just the here and now. Through 43 games, he's at -0.2 fWAR. Smith is at -0.1 fWAR through 19 games. Though, Smith is positive in defensive value, and Contreras has a pretty good xwOBA, .323.

valid. He has been horrible of late. Also important to think of his long term potential and what is best for him. I assume AA thinks sending him down would not be a positive. But maybe we'll see as TDA should be rehabing this month, right?

Lucroy and Mathis are already in Gwinnett - probably not much of a reason to add ANOTHER veteran Catcher who can't hit anymore.

I misread his fangraphs. I was looking at 2020 thinking it was this season. He has no mlb stats this year and last year was bad, so yeah, you're probably right. I was thinking be put up 2.3 fWAR last season, not 2019

Contreras fWAR is that low because he is among the leagues worst pitch framers.

How have Lucroy's skills eroded so badly since he was an all-star in 2016?

I think the Braves should make a trade.

On MLB Network today, they kicked around a proposed trade that Braves send Pache, Muller and Harris to Yankees for Judge. The response was it needed to at least be Waters, citing Pache's dismal numbers. I guess Judge is an expiring contract.
