I thought he was pretty clearly out- the front foot was never on the ground after it hit Bass' left foot, and the back knee gets there after the tag is applied- but this is the flaw with replay systems: what constitutes 'enough' evidence to overturn the original call?

What more could he have done?
Terrible slide? I though the did exactly what he had to to have a chance. I don't see any other options.
I think the pitcher took a huge risk by planting his foot right in front of the plate. Could have been a gruesome injury if his spike had caught a little.

He should have slid to the outside away from the pitcher.

Something new happened in my Braves fandom yesterday, after 31 years. Ive been selecting a Player of Game for every Braves win going back to the 90's (I would use TBS's PoG if they had one). Yesterday was the first time that a starting pitcher got a PoG in a game he did not start.

Correct. But the issue there was the Bohm call, not the Riley call. They both should've been out, and the umps went 50%.
In Riley's defense, there aren't many 6'3, 240 pound guys built like him who were taught a lot about how to slide that I can remember - that's a little like expecting Pitchers to hit .220 or more IMO.

I'm not sure there was anything wrong with Riley's slide either. Just a bad break and a good play by the Marlins. I actually thought there would be a longer review about Bass blocking the plate- Riley's foot seemed to hit his foot just as Bass was getting the ball.
