Trades/acquisitions

If I were running things, I'd go get peralta and duvall. This won't be very expensive, and it gives the impression to common fans we trying. Keep attendance up, so we have a shot at being competitive next season. If we sell Swanson, Morton, and FF, no one will want to watch that product, and the financial losses of last year will continue

It isn't. It's the appearance of trying. He's a name player that's a little bit of an upgrade to keep the product decent. Duvall is a guy that was liked to do the same. Short of selling the farm, we ain't winning crap. If we sell Everything though, it will hurt us next season with payroll though imo

FWIW, Morton can't decline a trade.

He can certainly forego his salary for the rest of the season and go home if he's dealt, but he has no way to "stop" a trade. If he's traded to someone and refuses to go, AA just shaves his money off the payroll. 10 And 5 Rights don't transfer from organization to organization (and he doesn't have those anyway).

I don't think Peralta or Duvall really move the needle that much. Peralta's rocking a .719 OPS and is due $7.5 million next year. Duvall's another feast-or-famine guy with an OBP < .300 who is arbitration eligible again after this season. I get the argument that you want to look like you are doing something and I don't know what the prospect cost would be (probably low for Peralta but higher than one would think--and probably justified--for Duvall), but do you want to move any assets for these guys?

Doesn't necessarily have to be those guys, but sure. Mets just blew a save vs the pirates, so there's a chance we're only 4 out. Adding the guys I mentioned (or maybe even better) would give the braves a lineup comparable to the Mets. T. Walker for the Mets is still unlikely to keep it up all season... look at his inning totals the last few years.

The problem is the Braves have to make the trades now if they want to try to win the division. Otherwise you’re looking at 1-5 vs. the Rays and Padres.

Have to imagine this is AA's biggest concern at this point - he's not taking on any 2022 salary unless it's a difference-making player. *ell, with another three months worth of development Waters may be a better player than Peralta in 2022 for almost $7 million less.

Alex might trade a marginal prospect or two to improve around the edges to let the players know he's "trying to help", but he's not taking on any money for someone who might not even be good enough to start for this team in 2022.
 
4 games back at the break. Anderson deal is a huge consideration now, but I see no reason to push at least a few chips in and try to win the division

First my apologies for the smart ass comment. But to the topic. Morton was very clear this past winter he was not interested in playing anywhere other than Tampa or Atlanta.
 
The money deal with peralta is a legitimate concern. Maybe just see what the Duvall marte package would cost

And if AA wants to shave several million off the payroll, he can trade him to the Yankees and Morton can decide to go home.

Alex doesn't "owe" him anything - he's trying to run a multi-million dollar franchise that Charlie isn't likely to be a part of 11 weeks from now. Would that hack off some of the players? Probably, but several of them may not be a part of the team in 11 weeks either. He's not responsible for paying fans who might get *issed about it on top of that.
 
Lets not turn this into an "ifs and buts". With Anderson now a question mark it is highly unlikely that Charlie goes anywhere other than the mound for Atlanta.
 
A question for anyone................Do you think Freddie wants to remain a Brave enough to go thru another rebuild (if that is what FO decides).
 
He’s not rebuilding. We’ve had one of the most bad luck seasons I can remember. Acuna will be ready for ST and I think AA will bring back Freddie and get more more bat like Story this offseason.
