Trades/acquisitions

Here's the issue with trading Freeman. From a human standpoint, he has young twins at home. A trade will guarantee he does not get to see them at all for the next 2 months plus playoffs. Maybe that means nothing or maybe it does, but just worth mentioning. With 10/5 rights, he has the say in the matter.

Also as others have noted, be prepared for a very boring trade deadline from AA as usual.

His agent, Charlie, would approve a trade to the Padres.

But what if he was traded to LAA or SD or maybe even the Dodgers?

At full health the team is closer to competing than they are from not. It’s a tough spot to be in now because the team is pretty much average today and if they get better, most likely it’s marginal and doesn’t really impact the chance at post season success. The smart play is to unload players who aren’t really in the plans moving forward and/or guys who can be replaced. Having said that I don’t expect anything big to happen one way or the other.

I just don't like the idea of using resources to try to get at the talent level you had entering the season. And that's what getting Marte and Bryant for example would do on the offensive side. If you can make upgrades without giving up real prospects then that's fine.
I'm with you for once. Total agreed.

This is a .500 team as they are playing now. Cutting Greene and Panda would be addition by subtraction. Get a couple of good bullpen arms and another bat like Marte and with TDA coming back the team has a legit shot at the division imo. AA isn’t gonna trade Freeman period.

I agree for the most part. Unless they really are committed to re-signing Freddie. If AA really wants the team to have a shot at winning the division, the upgrades need to be in place for this Mets series. He can’t wait around to see if we win three or four out of five. So might as well go ahead and sell.

If AA were serious about signing Freeman, an extension would already be in place. Freeman is going to hit the FA market, and the Braves can resign him whether they trade him right now or not. If Freeman approves the trade then there should be no hard feelings that he went to a contender for 2 months.

With Freeman/Morton/Smyly, the Braves are in a similar position to the Cubs with Bryant/Kimbrel/Rizzo. Both teams should be able to turn those expiring assets into 2-3 Top 50-100 guys, and several more complementary parts...and unless the Braves make some noise this week, both teams would be wise to do so.

The front office should be able to figure out if they're re-signing Freddie or not and make decisions accordingly at this point.

Not necessarily, depends on how far his California home is from each stadium. Some of the commutes each day would not be possible.

It has been said FFs CA home is in Orange County. If true, it is right around 1 hr 15 mins to SD stadium. Maybe 20 minutes to Anaheim and an hour or so to Dodger stadium depending on traffic.

Wonder what age his older son is . If he's in school in the Atlanta area, doubt FF wants to be traded

The craziness has escalated. Pirates send all-star Frazier to Padres for three minor leaguers, including their No. 5 prospect.

Just want Kimbrel. Not greedy. Just don't want to see Greene in another game.

If we don't have a LF, there won't be many leads to protect

Unfortunately, only one team will be wise and do it.

He also lives in California. If he was traded to the west coast, that wouldn't be an issue

He hasn't "lived" in California in a long time - that was in another life at this point.

Atlanta has been home for him for quite some time - it's where he met his wife, had his kids, made his fortune, and the vast majority of his friends are there now. That's why he wants to stay so badly.

Agreed. But I don’t think we win the free agency competition for Freeman. So in that case it’s silly to not trade him and to just let him walk if we’re not trying to improve the team to get back in a position to win the division.

That said, I’ll believe it when I see it as far them trading Freddie.

One thing everyone continues to miss in this discussion...

Freddie has constantly said that playing his ENTIRE career wearing one uniform is extremely important to him - much like it was to Chipper. There's never been the first hint that he's interested in spending two months somewhere else in an effort to make the team better in 2022. He doesn't appear to give two *hits whether that fits anybody's idea of what's "logical" or not, and he's consistently maintained that he's willing to give the Braves some level of hometown discount to stay if management wants him here. That's the human side of him, and apparently he doesn't give two *hits whether that "adds up" on someone's spreadsheet.

Those are the facts, like them or not. I've got a pretty good feeling that if you trade him to a contender "so he gets a chance to win a ring", there's a *amn good chance he tells his reps not to bother returning the call if they want to bring him back this winter. Logic be *amned that's just his personality, and he's EXACTLY the type of person that would take being traded away personally enough to hold that sort of grudge. He's already made more money than the next 2-3 generations of his family can spend and he's going to get piles more wherever he winds up - he offered you the chance to offer a much smaller pile, and you said "no thanks".

I’m pretty sure Freeman lives in California in the offseason bc he said he wants to be outside and play with his kids and it not be cold.
