Trades/acquisitions

Probably goes up considerably with the right moves over the final 61 games. More offense, improved bullpen cutting down on the 2-1 and 3-2 losses and the blown late inning leads.

We didn't have a .500 record at any point this season while one of the best players in baseball was healthy. Nothing we add is going to be valuable enough to make up for his absence, much less actually improve the team over the one that took the field with him healthy.

Continue to hear it’s a real buyers market for position players. Lots of stars on market: Bryant, Story, Baez, Rizzo, Turner, Buxton, Marte, Escobar, Gallo, Peralta etc. Hearing of many offers of “B” level prospects for established “A” names. Contenders are focused on pitching.

So at this point, how would you grade our pitching prospects?

I'd assume guys like Newk/Wilson/etc have falled into the C or D category.

Touki and Mueller are probably in that B category.

There are three games in the second half alone (hell, arguably four) that would have been won with a more competent relief corps and TDA plus legit every LF in the lineup. Those are likely the two significant upgrades AA is shopping for. As far as I know, Acuna hasn’t thrown one pitch nor does he bat more than once in the lineup. If they lose the next two games, the decision is easy to sell. If they win one or two I’d rather see them try to win the division and see what happens in October than just keep piddling along.

P.S. Acuna is irreplaceable. But that doesn’t mean waive the white flag right now.

Touki, yes. But Muller has the pedigree and is having enough success that it'd be hard to justify trading him. Davidson is probably in that B range though. Along with Shuster, however unlikely it may be that we trade him this soon.

I would imagine for a real impact bat, Touki or Muller will be at the center of the asking price.

Mycal Givens anyone? Imagine the Rockies would deal him as he’s an expiring deal. Don’t think the asking price will be too large either.

So if its a buyers market then does it make sense to sell?

I guess we still have a good chance at some home playoff games.

it makes sense. We’re only a few tweaks away and have a couple big pieces coming back.

I just don't see a real fit with the guys that are out there who wouldn't be an overpay. Bryant would be a spectacular pick-up, but what is the price going to be. Escobar would be a step down, but probably more affordable. I think we need a CF and another RH relief pitcher more than anything, but what is out there that's truly available that is a clear step up for us. As I wrote last week, Anthopoulos had a pattern of trading prospects (his highly-ranked prospects) for veterans while in Toronto but we haven't seen him do that here. Maybe he reverts to that pattern.

Any read about the Mariner players reaction to the trade yesterday of Graveman? They are 1 game out of a playoff spot and Dipoto traded their best reliever for 2 no ones.

Didn't address the players at all, they found out from the press. Yiesshhh

Not at all happy

So we now know where the team is shopping.

Heyman: Braves made a bid for former Brave Adam Duvall, who has 5 HR vs. them this season. But Marlins either didn’t like the offer or don’t love the idea of trading Duvall to a divisional rival.
