GDT 7-29 a time to Smyly.

Weird year next year. The last year of control for him. But there are 3-4 impact SS as FA. Plus a couple other superior guys.

Really interesting decision for ATL and the industry on Swanson. He's likely to be a FA in a bad year to be a FA SS.

His defense hasn't taken a step back at all from my eyes but that is something that leaves fast as a player ages.

It's because he's a 1-1 draft pick and people expect all-star level. But there is nothing wrong at being an average player.

I'd say hes slightly better than avearge but yeah this is probably the backstory why he is discarded often amongst Braves fans.

I'd give him a little security and lock him up with one or two extra years for cheap.

His arm is actually pretty fresh.

he got screwed by the current system and his sucking early.

I'm not guaranteeing money to a RP. He has had some sticky stuff changes. We control him through his productive years. You want to buy out age 34 and 35? Even for a team option I doubt it's worth it unless he wants to take a 2 million per year deal for 3 years with low team options.

Everyone doesn't need an extension. In fact most don't. Really just young position players.

Would a player like Swanson consider giving a home town discount? The only reason this crossed my mind is he probably doesn't have any endorsement deals anywhere but here

As the overall #1 pick in his draft, I think we all expected a generational type player. He'll never be that but we could certainly do a whole lot worse at SS and usually have.

I get the hesitancy with the volatility of bullpen arms. The way I look at him is that he is probably in the 90th percentile in effective relief pitchers and his arm is fresh. I don't think he is getting by on smoke and mirrors so I'd be inclined to keep him around if the price is right.

left handed relievers also find a way to stick around until their late 30s so I don't think his production will fall off much.

Why can't a guy like Matzek go three innings if he hasn't pitched in 3 days?

He didn't even throw 15 pitches.

Looking back this is going to be a painful series to wonder about. We should have won all 5. This Mets team is terrible. The 2 losses will have been 1 run losses
