Trades/acquisitions

I’m not going to lose sleep over it, but Wilson, Ball, and DeVito aren’t dead weight. If one of these guys hit, we will all look back and wonder why AA bothered trading these guys for the chance to get spanked by the Dodgers in the first round.

With that said, I think AA had to show some commitment to the team given how they hung around. The most important decision that will be made this year will be signing Freddie to a fair but reasonable extension. I was worried that standing pat or selling on this team would leave a bitter taste in Freddie’s mouth heading into the offseason.

Well if we make the playoffs we won't play the Dodgers first round... so there's that...

Is it OK if I have no idea who the hell Ricky DeVito is?

This was a nice series of moves, nothing to complain about at all. It does feel more like the trade deadline you'd expect from a team that's four games up in the division and just needs to round out the roster and plug some holes for the playoffs. Some useful but limited outfielders and a solid bullpen arm. It's not a "we're a playoff longshot and we need a moon shot to make this work" set of moves.

What flies under the radar here is that AA may have just solved the LF/DH question for next season in the event Ozuna's cut loose - exercise Pederson and Duvall's options and payroll doesn't change much (Greene coming off the books would cover the difference).

I am $uddenly interested in watching this team again...there is $omething to $ay about that.

I don't care if we only make it through one round of the playoffs. We made it financially more rewarding for the rest of the season without giving up anything.

Before today, our OF production didn't really have a floor. I feel like it should have an average offensive floor now, at least? Surely someone will hit.

DeVito was one of the 2019 HS draftees we went overslot for if I remember correctly... has done nothing but succeed since he's been in the organization and has some helium.. but still only 20 innings in high A ball

With the Mutts in front of you (and d'Arnaud, Anderson, and Ynoa potentially 10 days to two weeks away), there's little reason to try for the moonshot.

I like the Baez pickup for them, but if anyone currently in playoff position is going to step on their *icks we're behind them.

Trading something of good value for 2 months of a good but flawed player like Baez before signing him to a 100m+ extension is so perfectly Mets. Chef’s kiss.

Move was 100% influenced by the Yankees trading for Rizzo and Gallo.

Poorly. If either one of those guys are in CF, get ready to see the worst defensive OF in baseball.

Considering how inconsistent the offense has been, I'm happy to roll those dice. If they go back to consistently scoring 5+ runs/game, sending Arcia down and replacing him with Pache to be a defensive replacement shouldn't be a big deal.

I'm surprised no one beat our offer for Rodriguez. Damn he was a steal

His results grade out better than his raw stuff (below average fastball velocity, but high spin rate), so I think some analytically-driven teams shied away from him. Great control. Clearly he's a needed upgrade for us, so I'm not complaining.

Curious to see if Bryse Wilson gets any better in a different environment. He's another guy I thought was rushed. Really no secondary stuff and along with a below average fastball that isn't going to get you very far. DeVito is an interesting prospect, but he hasn't pitched in a bit so I wonder if he's hurt and, if so, how badly.
