I did want a the Braves to go full reload like the Nats and Cubs did, but there may be reasons we are not privy to that more or less forced them away from being sellers (willingness of their main trade chips to be traded is the most likely factor).
Given they couldn’t sell, for whatever reason, this was a very good execution of being a buyer on paper, but not actually giving up much future value…in exchange for very little real present value. The team didn’t really get much better, but the narrative in the clubhouse and amongst the lowest common denominator fan base is that they are “going for it” and “want to win”. The sheer number of trades, and the names involved drives that point home well.
I think we got a little better as we added a back end bullpen piece and have actual major leaguers in the outfield. I wouldn't say we improved by any significant margin but I think we saw our OF scrubs play over their head which would not continue. This will now be offset because we have guys who are at worse replacement level.
Rodriguez should help us win a game or two down the road as well and that one game may make a difference because the Mets are just average without Degrom.
