Trades/acquisitions

I agree with enscheff and jpx7. I would have preferred selling, but our most tradeable assets were not that likely to be sellable. The next decision was to just quasi go for it with mediocre power bats to help keep attendance high this season and maybe get lucky at the end of the year. The bonus is that we may have a reliever that could help us going forward.

I also think selling would have been the way to go if we truly had anyone to sell.

But this was a great move by AA. He rebuilt the OF and in doing so strengthened the bench. He also got a competent catcher, and added a quality arm to the bullpen. He did this all for very little in the way of prospects. He addressed every hole on the team in some way.

It’s on Snit now. The team better get on that winning streak soon because if he can’t find some way to make the playoffs there’s a good chance he loses his job at the end of the year.

There is virtually zero percent chance Snit loses his job at the end of the year. If they underachieve next year, that’s a different story.

There was probably about a 5% chance of him being "reassigned" in the front office after this year before RAJr went down -- but you're right, it's now zero unless he decides to hang it up.

We got 4 real major leaguers and replaced below replacement level guys.

I'm actually surprised that people didn't think we improved based on these deals.

Not many thought we didn't improve from what I've read. They just didn't put the Braves in "lock" to make the playoffs territory and let's be honest, up until the Rodriguez addition, most people were disappointed while happily looking forward to less Heredia/Almonte. At least that's my take.

There was some projection the day of where it changed it 1% I think. I don't know that we'll necessarily get better production from the OF, but we're a good bit less likely to get a big dropoff, which could have easily happened with Heredia/Almonte/Ender/Arcia.

I also feel like having more legitimate hitters in the lineup could lift all boats a little? Though that's veering into protection territory a bit. But some of those lineups, the 6-9 spots at a minimum couldn't have inspired confidence in their teammates, and they have to have made it low stress for opposing pitchers.

Not "protection" nearly as much as it simply makes it all but impossible for opposing Pitchers to feel like they get a breather after they get through the #5 hitter. Chip, Frenchy, Snitker, and others can no longer whine about how the lineup needs to be "lengthened so the bottom feeds the top" - once d'Arnaud and Rosario return, there's very little reason for Dansby to not be hitting 8th.

If this team doesn't improve, it's because Snitker is allowed to continue butchering the way the pen should be handled. That doesn't mean the Braves are suddenly a team to be feared, but they're sure as *ell good enough to chase down the Mutts after the deals AA made.
