When I was living in California I got to know a young winemaker named Macario. He and his wife started their own winery and it is in every way a form of homage to their fieldworker ancestors, some of whom came to this country illegally.

When winter temperatures fall below freezing, the campesinos are working in the vineyards, meticulously pruning, ensuring the vines’ growth and health for the upcoming year. When summer temperatures soar above 100 degrees, they are nurturing and preparing the vineyards for the approaching harvest. Many have come to California from Mexico, others from Central and South America, all of them with a similar goal: to make a living. They are here to provide for their families and in search of a better life. Unfortunately, the campesinos are also the often forgotten and overlooked aspect of the wine industry.
As the son and the daughter of fieldworkers, we make this wine in homage to all campesinos. Their journeys began with dreams and a search for new possibilities. The nobility of this hopeful quest is not diminished by the humility of their occupation. On the contrary, more than just laborers, these men and women are the keepers of the vine. They work the earth with dignity and care. We must not forget that every bottle of wine is indebted to their sacrifice. As we enjoy the fruits of their labor let us give thanks for their hard work and dedication.

I have another friend who works in construction. He doesn't have a big business. When he needs a crew to put in a new roof he heads over to a certain bus stop early in the morning and picks out two or three guys. They are invariably illegals. I know illegals is a frowned-upon term in certain circles. But I think it is something to be owned. Because the dirty little secret of illegal immigration is that it is to the benefit of the rest of us who happen to be here legally. Enjoy the roofs over your heads tonight y'all. Chances are pretty good that an illegal helped put it there.

You're probably right, but I still don't know of anyone who has even done that. That may be due to lack of experience among the affluent. Pretty much everyone I knew would have been laughed at if they had tried to cosign on a house. Or a shirt for that matter.

That is exactly what studies have shown for decades. . It has taken and still taking generations to build the collateral afforded other post WWII families.
It is one reason studies (plural) have shown how college though the doors were open to students mid late 60s was and still is an impossibliity for some because in order to get the loan to enter the college one needs to show collateral.
And the colleges that were available to those students were not viewed by in the same light by employers as colleges available to other students.
This would be (and probably is ) covered in critical race theory teachings.
Do I blame my white fellow 20-30-40 something Braves fans here, absolutly not.
But I do recognize they as well as I have benefitted from those policies
