The Coronavirus, not the beer

My reasoning is that my kid already has reduced breathing capacity due to asthma. I don't want to risk losing more to Covid. I keep seeing numbers for survival rate, but surviving with permanent or long term organ damage is also on the table, but counted in that 99.9999999% rate.

Fair enough. That is your child and as a parent you have that choice.

I’m sure there are more examples similar to yours but on the whole my point remains.

When the benefit from an intervention is very small (and that's the case with vaccines for children) you need a very large sample to generate the statistical power needed to establish this benefit. Not sure if the American Academy of Pediatrics is taking this into account.

Hopefully the teachers will remember this when it comes time teach unvaccinated children in person in a few weeks.

I wonder which of the the FDA or AAP the “follow the science, listen to experts” crew to decide are the true scientists/experts.

I'm not sure why they lean on the past years of vaccinology knowledge when this is new technology.

The data on the impacts of the CCP virus on children should inform parents on what the truth is.

Unfortunately there will be uncertainty until enough time has passed to really let the dust settle.

5-10 years from now, will someone who recovered from covid as a child be more susceptible to X, Y, Z? Will someone who was vaccinated from covid as a child have negative consequences from receiving the vaccine?

We don’t really know any of this.

Its all unknowns for sure in both directions.

Hold on. The benefit to the children is very small. This is what the FDA is trying to quantify.

I'm tried to express how important externalities are in a pandemic. That would be the justification for vaccinating young healthy people who are at low risk. The FDA is using all these powerful statistical tests to measure a gnat when there is an elephant taking a **** in the middle of the room. But I don't believe it is their job to measure the elephant and explain it to the public. That's up to our elected officials. The public also has some responsibility for informing itself and acting in a socially responsible manner. But externalities are by their nature difficult to internalize. Hence the justification for public policy that incentivizes vaccine taking.

I think 5-10 years from now we'll find out that kids who took the vaccine have higher IQs than ones that didn't. I make no claims about causality.

There's no question that the government will come for the heads me schools next. Can't be letting those kids escape the machine with dangerous domestic terrorist training!

i would say one interesting difference is the lack of deza claiming benefits from obesity or speculative harms caused by exercise and good eating habits

for example i have yet to see a post around here claiming that "exercise very likely causes new unknown diseases"

i have also yet to see a post claiming some miracle cure for obesity...a "game changer" to coin a phrase

maybe i havent been looking in the right places

somewhere in South Florida i'm sure there is a radio talk show host touting the benefits of obesity and the sedentary lifestyle
