Around the League - 2021 Szn

The #Braves today returned OF Eddie Rosario from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list. To make room on the active roster, the club designated OF Abraham Almonte for assignment.

Now how does the lineup shake out. Who does Rosario platoon with or replace

Actually going to be really interesting after last night - Rosario played CF with Waters in LF and Pache in RF. Only one of them can play CF against RHPs, and they're both too good against them for Snitker to give those ABs to Soler and Duvall. You have to imagine AA, Snitker, and the four of them have already gotten together to discuss it though, because it's not like any of them are "useless" against right-handed Pitchers...

vs. RHPs
Pederson - .492 slugging, .835 OPS
Rosario - .498 slugging, .808 OPS
Duvall - .470 slugging, .756 OPS
Soler - .451 slugging, .776 OPS

Actually a little surprising to see that Soler's more or less as good as Duvall against them. JMO, but the problem will be getting Snitker to sit one of Duvall or Soler enough to get Pederson and Rosario enough ABS because there's no doubt who plays when a lefty is on the mound...

vs. LHPs
Soler - .485 slugging, .830 OPS
Duvall - .463 slugging, .771 OPS
Rosario - .401 slugging, .703 OPS
Pederson - .324 slugging, .606 OPS

My guess is that Duvall continues to play just about every day except maybe against the toughest RHPs left on the schedule and there's an uneven "platoon" in RF with Rosario and Soler probably rotating days when RHPs are on the mound and Pederson and Heredia continue to be a strict platoon in CF.

If it's just best player, give it do deGrom in NL. He was on 10 fWAR pace. If the award has nothing to do with leading your team to a successful season, I don't think missing time should count against you. Is he not the best in the NL just bc he got hurt?

The best ability is availability. Hard to gain value sitting on the bench. Players surpassed him.

Think so? Pro hockey, pro football, and pro basketball agree with me.

Different. Sports.

When is the last time a player in those sports had a historical season and was head and shoulders above everyone else in the league and finished on a team with a losing record?

That's a good question that I'll have to look into.

As far as "historical season" for ohtani... he's by far the best this season for sure since, but not sure about historical in fWAR. He's on pace for 9.3, which is damn good. In 2018, betts went over 10. Trout has topped or been at 9.3 5 times. deGrom was on pace to top 10 this year. I guess the historical part could be bc he's a pitcher and hitter, and that's fair.

I've really spent waaaaayyyy too much time talking about an award I could literally not care less about. FF won it last year, and that was cool... I'd rather have 1 mlb wildcard game and lose than the next 15 MVPs be a brave though. I'm done on this subject... taking my L, and grabbing some beer for the game. Cheers

Barry Sanders in 1997???

Deshaun Watson was pretty damn good last year on a 4-12 team.

Led nfl in passing yds
Led in yds/att
Led in yds/comp
2nd in passer rating
2nd most sacked qb (49 times!), so he saw extreme pressure.

Also led lead in sexual assaults (supposedly)

Not sure anyone thought he was the best player in the league. Or even the best QB. In the conference even.

Rodgers had a better year, and he's the only qb that had a better year. Had rodgers not got the mvp, Watson still wouldn't have bc his team was terrible.

Y’all are missing another all time great Detroit lion that broke the WR record for yards and was recently a first ballot HOF…can’t argue how great he was.
Went to GT :)

Mahomes was just as good. So were a couple other QBs. It's been established that if 2 guys are close you go with the guy on the winning team.
