Preliminary talks have begun between the owners of the Buffalo Bills, the State of New York and Erie County as officials consider a pitch by the team to build a new NFL stadium.

In fact, it’s one of the largest asks for public money in pro sports stadium negotiations: Pegula Sports and Entertainment, the team’s owners, have pitched a $1.5 billion proposal for a new stadium in Orchard Park and to help cover some renovation costs to the Pegulas' NHL Sabres arena in downtown Buffalo.

The public would provide an unprecedented 100%, according to multiple sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the high sensitivity of the early stage of negotiations.

Disgraceful

No municipality should ever pay another dollar towards a stadium for pro sports, there's just no way the investment ever pays itself back.

I don't know why it isn't structured so that the municipality has in effect a lien on the pro sports team with specific language on paybacks to satisfy said lien.

Sports teams make absurd amounts of money and I understand the majority is on paper through appreciation. If that is the case then relay a parentage ownership to the people with options to force a redemption.

The public building stadiums for billionaires is absurd and should never happen

Not unless the public is getting part ownership of the team

Disgraceful

that seems to be outrageously one-sided even by the standards of sports stadia

It's almost like a systemic problem.

i could spend more than that and leave with one bag ftr lol

I’m on the train that your post saying how much you spent and how many bags you left with from a grocery store is one of the dumbest things you’ve brought to this board

And that’s saying something
