The Coronavirus, not the beer

I've been looking for data on the prevalence of various conditions in people dying of covid. Credit to Mississippi's Department of Health for publishing these numbers in an easy to understand graphical format.

Looks like obesity is the fifth or sixth most common condition behind high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and lung disease. About the same as neurological conditions and renal disease.

The low none noted number is also of interest.

Wonder how many have 2, 3, etc

I'm sure there is a fair amount of overlap.

In terms of obesity, about 700 deaths out of 8,500. Less than 10%. I'm a bit surprised it's that low considering Mississippi has a high obesity rate.

About a quarter had hypertension. That seems about right. That's a much more common condition generally than obesity.

Guy is trying to say heart disease and obesity isn’t a significant overlap.

If someone had a heart attack because they were obese the cause of death would be heart attack and not obesity.

Incredible that you are teaching this hard.

Oh, we are worried about track record suddenly? Lol

Getting tired of looking at these bs takes that you rallied around and ended up voting for land now acting like those hopefully quotes are an issue for you but these weren’t lol

I’ve also seen you say they are always doom And gloom/negative but whatever. You’re a rational person hhahaba

I wonder what the number of people who died from those illnesses aren’t considered obese.

The majority of people dying from covid are not obese.

Obesity is a big risk factor, perhaps the biggest in terms of increasing a person's chances of dying from covid.

But less than half the people dying of covid in this country are obese.

Both of those things can be true. In fact, they are both true. Obesity is a big risk factor AND most people dying from covid are NOT obese. It is not complicated or hard to understand.

What even less hard to understand is someone who is consistently wrong is trying to pretend that when the cause of death is written as heart disease that obesity wasn’t still the driving factor.

Keep up the narrative. Eventually one of these times you’ll get something right.

Return to normalcy...

When someone who dies of covid has heart diseases and is obese, both are considered contributing factors. There are lots of studies that look at people with multiple contributing factors. Obviously it you have four or five contributing factors, your chances are worse than if you have only one or two. But the idea that most people who have died of covid are obese is not correct. Obesity is a major contributing factor, but less than half of the people who have died of covid in this country are obese. Interestingly, one reason for this is there is less obesity among the elderly. Also the elderly tend to do better if they are overweight (or even obese) than if they are malnourished and emaciated. This is true of many diseases for the elderly. It is better to be overweight than underweight once you cross 70 (in terms of life expectancy). That reservoir of fat gives old people a certain resiliency when they get sick.

Among the elderly, obesity ranks third in terms of how much it increases a person's risk of dying once they contract covid. Malnutrition is #1.

Anxiety and fear-related disorders strongly increase the risk of death. Depressive disorders decrease it.

I am not a psychologist but I believe both you and sturg suffer from anxiety and fear-related disorders (not necessarily the same ones), which puts you both in the high risk category, no matter how young and otherwise healthy you may be.

Thankfully I am smart to understand that Trump is an idiot and I don't blindly listen to him either

While the lecturing buffoon was constantly praising the gold standards of tyrants Cuomo and Whitmer, Trump had enough sense to say that lockdowns were not the answer and schools should be open.

Trump is an idiot but he got a hell of a lot more right on covid than Fauci
