Around the League - 2021 Szn

Holy ****. Is Max Scherzer going to win another Cy Young award? I didn’t realize how good he was pitching this year.

Brewers - 10
Phillies - 0

Wheeler had been a good bit better than Scherzer. Seems like it is Wheelers to lose at this point, though the average sports writer is likely to be influenced by Scherzer's strong finish.

I'm no old-school baseball lover like some around here but it is kinda sad that Wheeler is going to lead the league in innings pitches and barely crack 200.

He would be a solid choice for the award. Both Burnes and Wheeler are pretty equal in WAR. Burnes has pitched better but Wheeler 40+ innings on him.

Phillies could have the MVP and Cy Young and miss the playoffs. Wild.

It is amazing. I'm so old I remember 4-man rotations and Ferguson Jenkins having 30 complete games when he won the NL Cy Young back in 1971. There have been 47 complete games to date throughout baseball in 2021 (and I believe--but could easily stand corrected--that some of those CGs are of the 7-inning variety). Of course, when the average fastball velocity was below 90 mph, guys could throw more innings.

I remember listening to the Tigers vs Browns game when the Browns put the midget in to pinch hit. Watching games on a round 12 inch TV screen. Eating lunch, take a 30 minute bus ride to Briggs Stadium, watch warmups, see a 9 inning game, get back on the bus, home for snack, out to the playground for our own 9 inning game without lights. Now its sleep by the third inning, get up to pee at 1:00 AM and check ESPN Scoreboard.

I am at Wrigley right now.

im watching Kevin Gausman pitch to Rafael Ortega leading off. And Tommy LaStella lead off for the Giants. I watched Heyward leave the game after getting clocked going into third base.

Y’all will find this hard to believe, but Nick Castellanos just hit a homerun on 9/11 to make it a 4-0 game in St. Louis.
