Confederate Monuments

Empty gesture to mask that your policies hurt black people.

Wrong by any measure. You are a running joke in this forum for how much false information you believe.

what false information ?
The statue physically comes down today, there was slavery of POC and Robert E Lee led the army that fought to maintain

Children of color are subject to racial stigmatization

not sure what is false in here

Your whole posting history is littered with false information.

You are too senile to even understand what I was referencing.

Your votes hurt the nation.

I don’t much care about the Left vs. Right part of this right now, just glad to see that ****ing monument go away.

It won't make any meaningful impact in anyone's life.

But its great we can divert attention away from rising unemployment for Black people (in a time where unemployment shrank for other demographics) and the fact that we are instituting Jim Crow medical laws.

1) You don’t get to determine what’s meaningful to others.

2) I’m pretty sure the country and even the state of Virginia and city of Richmond have worked on issues other than taking down one monument. It’s amazing how in every situation, the political minority jumps to “the real issues” as if the small amount of time spent on it would have solved all of the other problems in the world.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA - I'm sure people removed from slavery by 150 years are celebrating right now while they are on poverty and in crime ridden neighborhoods.

Incredible how easy it is to get the left to ignore the absolute failures of their policies.

Setting aside any other opinions here, I’ll just say that even in bad situations, sometimes it’s nice to see something good happen.

I prefer actual positive moves that impact peoples lives.

Thats just me.

Sure, so do I. I just also like small bits of good news when they come.

Its a distraction mqt.

I think we have a lot of commonalities but you need to fully detach from the mainstream that is lying day after day to you. Come join the movement that will save the nation. You'd be surprised what we would agree on in terms of support systems for American citizens.

Perhaps where we disagree on this is whether a “distraction” is inherently motivated by bad intentions. Baseball is a distraction from the bad in the world, yet we both celebrate when the Braves win. Sometimes things happen that are good, and while it doesn’t always change the world, sometimes it’s just nice to see.

I wouldn't think it was a distraction if the actual policies that have been implemented the last fifty years around the nation in Democrat strongholds didn't produce depressing amounts of poverty and crime.

This still has nothing to do with the specific question of whether or not a monument to Robert E. Lee being removed is good or not. I was happy when other statues fell despite disliking the state of the nation.

middling tactician, poor strategist

too bad it was not replaced by a statue of Grant, the only military commander of genius produced by this country

or one of Longstreet, who made amends after the war by working for reconciliation and the rights of the freedmen

i was always baffled as a young immigrant by the veneration in this country of confederate "heroes"...i remember when i was in high school getting something in the mail from Washington & Lee University and being puzzled about why a university would want to honor him that way

why is there no statue of Sherman in Atlanta? he helped to bring a rebirth that resulted in Atlanta being the vibrant racial melting pot that it is today...time to honor the man who made it possible...if not a statue at least a Sherman Boulevard

That's an interesting point. What do you think motivated people to put it up in the first place? It probably appeared during a civil rights moment, like most all of the Civil War statues. What was the "meaningful impact" then?
