I don't think its incredibly likely, but I'm still saying there is a 10-15% chance we see Strider in Atlanta this year. Reports had him throwing 101 last night in Gwinnett, and he struck out three in his first AAA inning. Throw him a time or two against the Mets this weekend and see how he responds. We need another righty in the pen.

If the division is clinched and he can be brought up...lets do it.

So, is this the AAA playoffs? I can't really make heads or tails of it, because while it seems like playoffs, the Stripers have promotions for every game, as if these were regularly scheduled games.

Is Strider even on the 40 man?

No, but we don't seem to be in much of a 40 man crunch this year.

Then he would be ineligible for the playoffs unless there is a new rule or the Braves try to pull an Angels with K-Rod. You have to be on the teams 40 man by Aug 31st to be eligible for the playoffs.

'A player who doesn't meet said criteria for postseason eligibility can still be added to a team's roster in the postseason via petition to the Commissioner's Office if the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing someone who is on the injured list and has served the minimum amount of time required for activation. (For example, a player on the 10-day injured list who has been on it for at least 10 days, or a player who has been on the 60-day injured list for at least 60 days.) Players who are acquired in September or after are ineligible.'

Does this mean we could put Strider in for Ozuna?

Am I completely misreading that?

Hmm I guess it's a little bit more straightforward than I thought. And it looks like that's what the Angels did back in the day. But he would need to replace a pitcher so Soroka would fit that bill.

Strider could be the closer as early as 2022, but would be hard to covert someone that's been that good as a starter.

So I reckon not.

That's true. However, as small as he is and as hard as he throws he may not hold up as a starter. We'll have to see.

Next year we could theoretically have the following ready to start by midseason:

Morton
Fried
Soroka
Ynoa
Anderson
Strider
Elder
Tarnok
Davidson
Muller
Wright (Have to throw him in there)
Touissant (Same as above)
FA Signing (AA is definitely going to give someone a contract)

I think putting a guy like Strider in the pen for a season or two makes a lot of sense.

Yeah we would have to apply for an exemption, but I don't think it would be tough to get if we wanted to. Obviously 2020 was a little wonky, but three guys debuted in the playoffs last year. Pulling Strider up wouldn't be dissimilar to what the Rays did with McClanahan last year, and he'd probably be better off coming from AAA than McClanahan was coming from summer camp.

If its me I'm trying to get him an appearance or two in the Mets series, especially now that we've taken at least 2 from the Phillies.

I'm not even saying we need to do it for a season or two, but he's already coming out of the pen in Gwinnett, why not have him do it in Atlanta for a couple of weeks? I would much rather have him on the playoff roster than some of our fringe bullpen guys.

That SP list is loaded though. Morton, Fried, Anderson are locks. If Soroka is ever healthy again, he would be too. A couple of those guys (Ynoa, Strider, Tarnok) have the type of electric stuff that could really play up in a late inning bullpen role where they can air it out- that is where I ultimately expect Ynoa to land. Tarnok is the one to me who has true ace potential. I am pretty high on Elder as a back end of the rotation innings eater type.

I expect at least a couple of those guys to get shipped out in trades this offseason. Hopefully Wright did enough at AAA to have some amount of value- it seems pretty clear the Braves have given up on him considering they've let Jesse Chavez start a couple of games down the stretch rather than calling him up.

Tarnok was compared to Degrom at draft time if I remember correctly.

Just saying - I'm with you on potential ace type level.
