It seems unlikely the Pirates could get enough guaranteed value for Reynolds to let them trade him with so much control. Probably easier to agree on a deal when he's less valuable.

I think that used to be a legitimate concern that has changed somewhat over time. With SSs typically being the best athletes on the field, it's usually easier to transition them to another position - Turner moved to CF for a period, etc.. There have always been questions about whether Grissom or Shewmake could stick at SS, but both were projected to have enough power to slide over to 3B if things didn't work out. Seamless position changes are never a given, but guys like those are athletic enough that you can at least assume moving to an OF corner "shouldn't" be a problem as long as you think they'll put in the work. After seeing him out there for the short period we have, I don't think anyone would bat an eye if Riley were asked to move to LF - much easier to move from dirt to grass than the other way around IMO.

Just seems like there are more and more middle IFs being drafted these days because of their bats, and the personnel guys say "We'll play them there until they prove they can't handle it - the bat will play somewhere.".

It was us and one other team that was in deep talks for Reynolds at the deadline so they weren’t hanging up the phone.
 
Pirates need pitching though, and we still ripe with it. Pache or Waters would also be the someone too potentially replace Reynolds. Hell, we could even move both of them since we're getting back a CFer.

Fair enough. I can see a team wanting him included in a package, but I'm not sure many teams would consider him a central piece to a package. You'd be looking at 2-3 top tier guys (Pache, one of the catchers, Grissom- those types) and then maybe could include Wright as part of the prospects to round out the package with guys like Vines and Franklin who aren't at that same level.

He has better stuff than Wilson, but worse results. The Pirates gave up an aging reliever with bad peripherals who wasn't good enough to make our playoff roster for Wilson- I imagine they would value Wright fairly similarly with a little more upside.

No one on the 40-Man Roster can be selected in the Rule V...

Rule V Draft Eligibility

1.) A player signed at 18 years old (or younger) MUST be added to the club's 40-Man Roster within 5 years.
2.) A player signed at 19 years old (or older) MUST be added to a club's 40-Man Roster within 4 years.


I posted a list of players that have to be added to the 40-Man weeks ago if the Braves want to protect them - that information is all available from the Roster Resource part of FanGraphs - those guys that have to be added in several weeks to make sure they can't be taken are...

Waters and Tarnok are locks to be added because there's no doubt someone would take them. If you assume the DH is in play in the NL, Lugbauer might need to be added after the season he had (18 HRs in 300 ABs) in the Pitchers' paradise that Trustmark Park is. Jenista hit 19 bombs in only 287 ABs there too.

How about waiting until they start selling Series tickets in the box office at Truist Park before worrying about who may or may not be in the opposing rotation. Things are going really good - and it's impossible not to like our chances - but they're still in exactly the same spot they were a year ago at this time.

If there's one thing that Snitker is better about than anyone else in recent history it's his overriding mantra - "let's worry about THIS AB and THIS INNING and worry about what we can control and try to go 1-0 TODAY".


FWIW I came down to my office and put my wallet beside my computer so I'd be ready to order my Series tickets when it was 5-2 in the 7th inning Tuesday night. I had to come back down to get that wallet before I could go pick up my breakfast yesterday morning. Not 100% sure that I'm not the reason that last night wasn't the clincher, but I've tempted fate for the last time in 2021.

I really don't think fans looking ahead has any effect on games
 
While I agree with the sentiment that it is far from over with our postseason history... however, we are not in the same spot as last year. Last year we were running on fumes and this year the Dodgers are the ones out of sorts and dealing with injuries. I hope we can win this one to not let doubt into the minds of the Braves though...

Remind me if i'm wrong, but didn't Duvall and Martin get injured in the NLCS last year. That plus the 7 games in 7 days depleted our pen. Our team also leaned heavy on the pen all season due to the rotation being in shambles. This season, I really like the spot we are in. We definitely hit our stride at the right time.

Never gonna convince several of us superstitious old-timers!!! I even have to wear the hot-colored shirt/sweatshirt/hat combinations come playoff time - having to have several of each available this time of year so I don't have to do laundry all the time is part of why I'm broke (and have precious little closet space).



(Last night was navy shirt/red hat for those just as superstitious.)

Lol, I wrote that, but didn't watch game 1 vs dodgers bc we beat brewers without me watching while I was on vacation

2 questions: How did the shirts/hats work last year in games 5,6, and 7? Second: What are the hot colors for tonites game? Hurry, Ive got to get to WalMart.
