The Coronavirus, not the beer

“I ask people close to me, my classmates: ‘Have you been vaccinated?’” Putin said Wednesday. “The question to me is: ‘And have you?’ ‘Not yet.’ ‘I will wait for you to be vaccinated.’ Ok, now I am vaccinated. I ask, ‘Have you been vaccinated?’ ‘No.’ ‘Why?’ ‘Oh, I don't know, I’ll wait.’ It's strange, people with a good education, with academic degrees. I just don't get what's going on.”

I don't get it either Vlad.

The conspiracy theory I've seen most often was that the virus escaped the lab accidentally, then China kept it quiet until they were confident it had spread elsewhere so they wouldn't be the only country damaged by it.

It's not hard to come up with other possible motivations. It mostly kills old people, and China's population has a higher percentage of older people than is ideal thanks to declining birthrates. Or it mostly impacts obese people, and they're far more common in the West and especially the US. Or it requires a great deal of health care resources, and those are far more expensive in the West. Or they hoped it would impact the US economy to hurt Trump's re-election odds, or to lower the US defense budget.

The fact that you are more concerned about the legality of it rather than the morality of it is all I need to know about your support of it

Didn’t realize you had transitioned from a libertarian (who would be interested in limitations on governmental action) to an anarchic moralist. Will adjust my posting style accordingly.

ME AGREE. LOSE JOBS BAD. HOPE NO LOSE JOBS.

I think at this point at least, you can remove conspiracy from that. Its more likely than not and makes total sense when linked with the employees falling ill around the right time.

Yeah I think it's almost a certainty, but it was conspiracy in the middle of last year when everyone was spinning the whole wet market bat that happened to be down the street from the Wuhan virology research building but was totally not connected to it.

In today's news (Bloomberg): "Moscow will implement its harshest lockdown since the early days of the pandemic because the virus is spreading in line with the city’s worst-case scenario. Among other eastern European countries battling a resurgence, Ukraine also reported a record number of new daily infections and deaths."

"Hey maybe we should go ask those guys how this happened? They probably know a lot about coronaviruses"

Hardly shocked that this issue is much more nuanced than a tweet from someone who subtweets his tweets with mypillow ads

I actually still don’t see how they’d be in the right here. I do understand the idea that you can’t just retire off of Administrative Leave and necessarily get your retirement benefits, as this is a good deterrent for bad cops to just retire and collect benefits. I just don’t see how applying it here would make it better. I once again think the better outcome is for them to get vaccinated, but I don’t like the idea of not just letting those eligible to retire to do so. That all said, I think until it actually happens that it isn’t a big deal yet.

Ahh back to the "my vaccine only works if you take yours" logic

this logic is not unique to the covid vaccine

school districts mandate the chicken pox vaccine

but school-age children are not a vulnerable population when it comes to chicken pox

the vulnerable populations are pregnant women, unborn children, infants under age 1 and those with compromised immune systems

by mandating the chicken pox vaccine in a population that is not at risk, you save lives and serious illness among those who are at risk

this is not a new logic

it is not a complicated logic

but you know that

i promise if you take your shot it won't do anything to your ovaries...you will barely feel it
