Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

I’m curious about Soler to. I’d like to have him and Rosario back and have Ozuna gone but who knows at this point. I’m sure AA has a pretty good idea.

I think the thing with the four OFs we picked up at the deadline is that they are all in their early-30s (Soler will be 30 early next year) and that's the time a lot of guys start thinking years over AAV. They all may have to settle for one year deals in the end, but I'm thinking that they may believe this is there last chance at a reasonably large payday. Not saying they will get it, but I think that's where they'll start.

I don’t think the playoff hot streak changed any GM’s mind. He knew what they were before and they are still that now.

You are exactly correct. Casual fans have allowed the excitement of a WS run influence their valuations of the players who played well for a week or so to make that championship possible.

The best of the bunch is unquestionably Soler, but even he is “just” a .350+ xwOBA bat with defensive limitations and major injury concerns early in his career. I’d take the over on his 2022 steamer projection of 1.6 WAR, but he’s probably looking at a reasonable deal for a low end impact bat.

The more I think about it, the more I like Bryant as a solution in the OF. He can fake it in CF, so he can plug the hole if Pache fails.

I imagine he will be pretty expensive though due to that defensive versatility.

Anthopoulos acknowledged “realistically” it will be hard to keep all the outfielders.

Of course the Twitterverse morons think it’s possible to somehow keep all the OFers.

The collective stupidity on social media is impressive.

He'll get close to what Freeman will or more, i'd think. You think AA gives out two contracts that size?

I dont think any of them get crazy money, so technically we probably could. But all of them want playing time, and Acuna is back, so best case we can probably keep 2.

Soler works as the impact bat in LF. Rosario works as a cheap replacement for Ozuna. Duvall works as the CF insurance. Joc also fits that CF insurance role who can platoon with Heredia.

So there’s a way they can all fit, but almost certainly not all together. And there are other options that may be better fits.

Heredia has an xwOBA vs LHP of .332 over the last 3 seasons, and plays an above average CF.

He is a great option as a 5th OFer who can backup CF at $1.6M, especially if paired with a backup CF who bats LH. Pairing him with Joc would be a great cheap backup plan for Pache.

They could technically sign FF and Bryant and use Pache in CF. Just depends if you want quality or quantity.
