Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

this guy has made $133 million in salary in his career.

so what, 25 million a year isn't enough now? great. go braves.

if freddie freeman truly was the nicest guy in the world, why ever take any salary again? give it to charity. the whole world is ****ed if this is where we are.

I don't begrudge anyone for asking for what they are wroth.

I wouldn't begrudge AA for letting Freeman walk either.

I would be kinda interested what our offseason plan would be if Freeman left. I think we'll figure something out but if not, i'll wish Freeman the best. I'd imagine there's a line AA would cross where he wouldnt match a crazy deal like a 7/200+ million or so. Although maybe McGuirk would make AA keep him at all costs, i guess we'll see.

You can sign a collection of players like Bryant/Marte/Soler in that situation.

So many options and Atlanta might now be seen as an attractive destination to free agents so we won't have to pay top top dollar to get these guys.

Also interesting they added Alan Rangel to the major league roster.

Rangels K rate spiked big time this year while maintaining a mid 40's GB rate. His k rate increased from his 2017 low each season some something must be 'clicking'.

It's probably also fair to wonder if this signals a permanent transition to a reliever role for De La Cruz. He doesn't really have a path to becoming a starter at this point - Ynoa, Davidson, Wright, Muller, Strider, Tarnok, Rangel, and Elder are probably all ahead of him on the depth chart at this point, the Gwinnett rotation is going to be overflowing without him, and Shuster, Estes, and Cusick could start coming fast.

De La Cruz' stuff would really play up in a late-inning role, and he could potentially add another RH pen weapon pretty quickly. Less reason to spend money on relievers during the winter is always a good thing - wait those second and third-tier guys out until they're desperate and left without a job when the music stops.

Supporting the major league club from a pitching perspective is not going to be an issue the next 2-3 years.

Will always have to have an outside guy like Morton on the team but the options are abundant right now.

Gabe Burns- “Payroll will go up.” - Alex Anthopoulos. He didn’t elaborate much further but ensured payroll will be higher in 2022.

The QO list is starting to finalize, but so far the candidates for “the guy who clings to an unreasonably high price and screw himself out of a contract” are Ray, Conforto, Castellanos, Story and Semien.

I assume stars like Freeman and Seager are going to get huge deals despite the QO, and Thor will accept his.

I think Ray should do well in this market, even with a QO to him. I've been thinking one of the big 5 SS will get left out to dry b/c i'm not sure there's 5 teams out there willing to pay 120-200+ million. Random guess is Baez-Mets, Seager-Yankees, Correa-Tigers, Semien-Mariners, Story- Rangers.

Thor should probably accept, Conforto is going to decline his and i think he shouldnt. Castellanos will have an interesting market.

If payroll is going up, Duvall for 1 year at 9/9.5 million isnt a bad deal for one of the OF spots.

That comment could mean a couple things.

It could mean payroll is going up compared to the opening day 2021 payroll, which was clearly less than the $150M+ it has become the couple years prior. That means simply going back to the pre-covid levels satisfies the comment.

It could mean payroll is going up over the pre-covid levels. That could mean $160M, or the fantasies we’ve had of a payroll approaching $180M.

For right now, I’m assuming something around $150M-$160M as the opening day total. With $100M-$110M already spent, that’s roughly $50M left to spend, and Freeman is probably going to take up over half of that.

I think even after Freeman is signed they’ll have plenty to bring back Soler, a veteran starter, and another bp arm and anything else they need to make a really sold team. They saw have exciting it was to be in the WS and to win it and they wanna taste it again so they’ll spend what it takes to get back there.

If AA is free to sign FF at all costs then why even put up the QO? I get the cover your ass aspect but to me this is just another threat to the certainty of having FF next year.

In addition to RHP Alan Rangel, they added OF Travis Demeritte to the 40-man. Bit of a surprise on both. Both had good seasons, but both have been around awhile. Rangel's 2021 uptick could portend something new, but I think everyone knows what Demeritte brings to the table.

It's to finally supplant Ozzie at 2B this year

Like somebody else said, there’s a line drawn that AA doesn’t feel comfortable going to that could hamper the team from doing other things down the road.

Yeah. Ive felt all along that it is somewhere close to 50/50 that FF comes back.

The 100-110 figure also depends on Ozuna, if he's suspended for the whole year, thats 18 more million we have to use. Or half the year, 9 million, etc.

Yes, but my mental calculus assumes any money saved on Ozuna will be spent to fill those DH PAs, so it will be mostly a wash.

I assume Freeman is coming back, and the Braves will have $20M-$30M and some prospect capital to address LF, a SP, a RH BP arm, and some other OFer that can cover CF as a bat off the bench.
