Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

With Ozuna back on opening day, and assuming Duvall is the CFer to start the year, the payroll is currently $131.7M with holes at 1B, LF, SP and a couple bench spots. I expect them to spend ~$40M combined on 1B/LF, ~$10M on a SP, and a $2M+ on the bench, which would make the opening day payroll $180M+. That's pretty amazing.

Pos Player 2022 Salary

23 BP5 Smith $13.00
24 BP6 Ynoa $0.60
25 BP7 Matzek $1.50
26 BP8 Touki $0.60

EX BO Duvall $3.00

EX BO Inciarte $1.00

Hard not to be beyond stoked if they're willing to push Opening Day payroll into the $180 million range.

I have Duvall in RF and Pache in CF with Acuna starting out on the IL on my sheet - with Pina, Arcia, and Heredia taking up 3 of the 4 bench spots. If Davidson and Wright fill the #4 and #5 spots in the rotation Rodriguez, Jackson, Lee, and Touki (long guy/Opener) in the pen and Soroka and Yates starting on the IL, that leaves Ynoa, Muller, Strider, Tarnok, and Elder as your Gwinnett rotation plus Contreras, Waters, Shewmake, Demeritte, and Dean getting ABs and O'Day, Newk (or Lee), Webb, and De La Cruz working out of their pen. That's pretty deep.

If all that happened to work out and Adrianza would take the $2 million you have budgeted for the other backup IF slot, $30 million for Freddie and $8 million for Rosario would put payroll at roughly $180 million. A 1 year $5 million deal with a chance to play for a defending Champ/contender for someone with injury concerns like Rich Hill or Danny Duffy or maybe even bringing Smyly back on that kind of deal to be a swingman/Opener would provide an amazing amount of depth.

Oh please no.

I've never been as high on Alex Wood as a lot of others in here, but if the Giants are getting him for 2/10 MM (which I thought I read), that's a very good deal for them.

Agree here. I thought that Wood could be a great target for that 6th starter\long man role.

At those salaries I'd let Arcia, Heredia, Rodriguez, and Camargo go. I'd circle back on Arcia and Heredia for depth at a lower salary.

I'd probably keep Heredia at that rate. Would non-tender Newk to take that spot on your list.

I'm guessing there are 29 pitching coaches out there who believe they can fix Newcomb. It's always that way with guys with electric stuff that they simply cannot harness consistently. I agree that he'll be someone else's project next year.

I wonder if Freddie will even sign now that Ozuna is back. I thought I read somewhere that Freddie was NOT happy with that situation.

I was thinking more about how Baez may be a missing piece for a contending team, which the Tigers aren't (although that division isn't all that hot).

Fair. I think this is like the Ranger's moves. Not necessarily for this year but they will have a good player under their control for hopefully when their prospects hit.
