CrimsonCowboy's 2014 NFL Mock Draft

I'm torn with Houston honestly. I think for them they may be better off getting CLowney and signing McCown because you have to wonder how much longer for Andre and Foster, what if next year is their last year of high productivity?
 
I'll do what I call my ideal first 4 rounds with the Falcons with some realism (aka not ging with Clowney since odds of him falling are slim)

1. Robinson
2. Su'a-Filo
3. Taylor Hart
4. Daniel McCullers.

That's under the assumption that we sign Michael Johnson which I think is very likely. I was tempted to take a safety since we're going to cut DeCoud but I think we may opt to find someone via FA since there are some quality safeties out there who're cheap. I'd keep Babs, maybe Peters as well depending on Price for him.

2014 Falcons

C - Konz/Hawley (let them battle, I'm hoping adding Tice will improve one of them)

DT - Hart/McCullers rotation. If Peters is in the mix it would be an even heavier rotation. Aside from obvious passing downs (where I'd put Biermann at DT anyway) I'd pair a rookie with a Vet so Babs with McCuller and Hart with Peters. Possibly throwing Peters and McCullers in there for big run stopping downs.
RDE - Johnson
WLB - Bartu
MLB - Worrilow
SLB - Spoon
LCB - Alford
FS - Delmas
SS - Moore
RCB - Trufant

Overall that's a strong team. Depth is still a concern but it will be improved and if the only name FA we sign are Johnson, Babs, and Delmas we should have plenty of space to add some quality depth.

Other positions the Falcons may take but I hope they don't include RB and TE. While I think having a great TE is awesome as it totally opens up the playbook. I'm fine with using more 3 WR sets. I think the Falcons can morph themselves into a spread offense successfully with their weapons.

He would be used as a passing down decoy. Main job being to fire a gap and take up the attention of the Center and guard leaving one on one with Babs and if they're not holding anyone back one on one with Johnson and Osi.

Someone who's fast off the line can be a real disruption on the inside. Biermann would get blown up and problaby never make a sack. But he would be used in a similar way that fatties stop the run. Occupy a gap and force 2 people ot take care of you.

Sports Talk 790's Lance Zierlein believes it looks more likely that the Texans will select a QB later in the draft rather than with the No. 1 pick.

Zierlein notes this would mean the Texans go with the best player (or grade) available, which would likely be Jadeveon Clowney. "Traits usually win out," Zierlein added. The possible second day quarterbacks include Fresno State's Derek Carr (outside shot), LSU's Zach Mettenberger, Alabama's AJ McCarron and Eastern Illinois' Jimmy Garoppolo.
 
Well, Texans taking Clowney is probably the best long term solution for the Falcons. Hopefully they'll trade out of the 6 spot if Watkins falls. I'm sure the Lions would offer at least their 1 and 2 for that then at 10 the Falcons can take Mack, Lewan or Donald. And then in the second they could add say Marcus Martin, Troy Niklas, Brandon Thomas, etc. with te Lions pick.
 
If I was any of those QB needy teams I would try and trade down and get more picks next year. Mariota, Winston and Hundley are all better prospects than any qb in this class. I think Bridgewater and Carr will be halfway decent starters that arent totals busts. Bortles is probably who I would pick if you put a gun to my head but I still dont think he develops into a good qb. Manziel is going to bust like crazy. Especially if he goes to a team without much talent on offense.

Pittsburgh already called dibs on Winston.

He fits the bill with how they like their quarterbacks.
 
I think predicting success with Draft prospects is really tough. You can have great prospects who tank, or guys who come from nowhere.

The year Ryan and Flacco were drafted no one expected anything from that draft. 2012 we knew that RG3 and Luck were stud talents. But I don't think anyone predicted 2 probowl QBs to be taken in the 3rd round. 2008 was supposed to a terribly weak QB draft. One of the few NFL drafts not to have a QB go top 2. In the end 2 current NFL starters came out of it in Ryan and Flacco, and you had Chad Henne who should start on a bad team (like Jacksonville)

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports the Texans are "seriously considering" each of Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel with the No. 1 pick.
Per McClain, there's a "long way to go in the process." McClain — who is the most plugged-in Texans reporter — has been adamant that the team will take a signal caller at No. 1, though there's been recent chatter they could select South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney. Bortles appears to be the favorite at this exact moment, but there's plenty of time for that to change.

Everson Griffen is a good value signing, primed to breakout.

Ridiculousally deep FA class.
