Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

The Yankees giving Freeman the 6th guaranteed year that he wants is "reasonable" in the sense that that may make more sense than giving the consistently-injured Judge $30 million per - "reasonable" being used loosely obviously.

The Red Sox would be better served spending on a Devers extension and plugging Casas in at 1B. The Angels would be better off keeping Walsh at 1B and spending on pitching. The Blue Jays would be better off leaving Vlad Jr. as a defensive player rather than full-time DH so he doesn't get fat again. The Dodgers would probably be better off going one of several different ways and the Giants just don't look like they're interested in spending that type of money on anyone since they didn't chase one of the high-end SPs and haven't re-signed Bryant. But the Yankees, well...

You can make the argument that there's NO ONE built to hit in Yankee Stadium more than Freeman. Since there's no chance they'll be able to get out from under the Stanton deal, they'd probably prefer to only have one OF/DH that hits from the right side making $30 million a year. Judge is going to be looking for (and will probably get) more than 5 years next winter, meaning he'd be on their books longer than Freddie even if they gave him 6. With Haniger and Wil Myers available next winter and Gallo likely to be less-expensive to re-sign than Judge, there's at least an argument to be made that they'd be better off signing Freeman to hit in front of Stanton, re-signing Gallo to hit behind him, and chasing Haniger to play RF and hit 6th next winter.

Not saying I think that's a brilliant plan - and I think it's still fair to wonder whether Freddie would want any part of playing in New York - but it actually does make a little sense for them, especially if they want someone as a clubhouse leader as much as it looks like they do.

Ozuna looks great right now and was productive in his winter league. That doesn’t mean it’ll translate back to the big leagues but I feel pretty good about ozuna still being an above average bat in the middle of the order.

Braves will be carried by their pitching next year. It’s just so damn deep with lots of help in the upper levels of the farm.

Fried puts it all together next year and finishes top 3 in CY young.

Health is still a major issue pitching wise, though... Morton may not ever be the same, who knows... Fried's blisters... can Ynoa find some dominance again? Is Wright finally ready to take the next step? Can Ian get his control back on track? Lots of potential but still lots of risk.

Nah fam. We're world champs. nothing will stop us now. posi braves all the way.

Agreed but I think the same can be said for every teams pitching.

Braves have tons of depth just waiting to crack the major league team.

Just wish we would give Wright 15-20 starts and see what happens.

I no longer hold out hope for Wright. He has teased me too many times.

He was close in 2020, but the dodgers gave him PTSD in the playofffs. It took basically a whole season for Kyle to get over that shelling, but he finally did. 2022 is his breakout year

The guy I'm hopeful becomes the "surprise" is Strider.

I have similar levels of concern and/or questions about Soroka/Ynoa/Wright/Muller/Davidson like others do, but I'm really keeping an eye on Strider. The organization has rightfully been accused of pushing prospects too quickly in the past, but I don't recall one that has gotten the pedal-to-the-floor treatment like he has without the typical over-the-top hype we're used to see surrounding those guys. Like all the others (other than Soroka) he has the same reliever-risk, but the current control is a full grade better than Muller's and he threw fastball-slider almost exclusively last year. They're adding the changeup back slowly, and if it can even become good enough to be a "show me" offering I think he could be the best of the group.

He reminds me a lot of Anderson - he's possibly good enough to be a #3/4 piece as a two-pitch guy, and if he can at least throw his third pitch well enough that hitters have to keep it in the back of their mind (like Anderson's curve) he'll be really tough. If that third pitch turns into an average or better offering, look out. I think you could probably say the same about Ynoa, but I have less faith in his control. Strider's a guy they've been on for a long time, and they're usually right about those guys when they've been able to be healthy.

The fact that he pitched as well as he did in the ultimate stressful environment in game four gives me hope that maybe his head is getting out of the way. That's seemed to be the only thing holding him back.

You're probably right that it's a tease, but at this point the team needs to either give him 10-15 starts to sink or swim, or hope that some other team bought his performance in the WS as legitimate and will overpay for him.

Bryse Wilson also had a shut down performance in the NLCS against the Dodgers the year before. He continued to be as “meh” as we all thought he was after that. Wright isn’t good.

My desire is to resign Freeman and trade for Reynolds.

RF- Acuna
CF- Reynolds
1B- Freeman
3B- Riley
DH- Ozuna
2B- Albies
SS- Swanson
LF- Duvall
C- d'Arnaud

We have a real chance at a dynasty with these cheap Acuna/Albies deals.

People yearning for Reynolds may want to read this: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/10/mariners-tried-to-trade-for-kris-bryant-bryan-reynolds.html

"In regards to Reynolds, Divish says the M’s have tried to acquire the outfielder on two different occasions, and in the most recent trade talks, the Pirates wanted Rodriguez in return."

Who is Rodriguez? This guy: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/julio-rodriguez/sa3005720/stats?position=OF

He's the closest thing to Acuna in the prospect world right now, and the Braves obviously have nothing even remotely close to anything that valuable. The Ms understandably refuse to trade the kid, but that's what the Pirates want for Reynolds.

A package centered around Pache probably isn't even close. Getting Olson for something like Contreras plus Touki, and then signing Conforto is much more palatable, imo.

Ian Anderson is probably our best chip and i doubt the Pirates would want him given how far away they aew. There's alot of FA outfielders so i'm okay not using assets to trade for one.

I like conforto as an option

If we can get Olson and keep Harris/Lango, man as much as i want Freddie back, that opens up a ton of payroll flex moving forward. Even if we re-signed Olson, it would since he's 5 years younger. Hope MLB settles soon so we can see which direction AA is gonna go.
