Spring Training Gamethread/Discussion

I'm not complaining at all. I think Wren is a hell of a GM, and those dreams of getting an ace by some were exactly that, a dream. Only way it happens is if something falls into Wrens lap and he fleeces another team, it didn't happen.

I'm just frustrated that the leader of the team is not invested in the game paying attention to the details, sets a bad example.

I know aces are few and far between in baseball. Getting one this off season wasn't a realistic expectation. However Wren made zero attempt to add pieces to this team. They haven't hit their prime because they aren't that good. Until the Braves make changes to the personnel on this team we need to accept them for who they are. 90 wins during the regular season and a playoff exit. This will be the standard for years to come.

Aren't that good? Do you say stuff just to see what kind of reaction you can get? These guys are what, 22 and 23 years old?

Some of this has to fall on Medlen too. He should be calling the trainer in a meaningless game if his arm hurts. Dunno...hopefully he ends up okay. Lackey had a scare last season and it turned out okay. Certainly preparing for the worst though

There could be an ace already on the team in Teheran.

Only ace really available is Lee. Greinke at one time. All it took to get Jamed Shields was a top

5 overall prospect. Nobody else really trades them.

No one is looking to trade for an ace. Just a reliable #3-4 would be nice.

Cliff Lee?

He's not available at all.

Let me tell you something, if Meds is done for or misses a significant amount if time we are in DEEP HOT WATER.

I just hope that it's a forearm cramp and he will be ready to go his next turn.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Phillies have indicated to teams that they are "ready and willing" to discuss Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels in trades.

It's likely just a matter of due diligence, but given the prices in free agency, the Phillies could land a huge haul for either pitcher. Lee is owed $25 million in each of the next two seasons while his contract includes a $27.5 million club option for 2016 or a $12.5 million buyout. Hamels just inked a six-year, $144 million extension with the Phillies last July and is under contract through at least 2018. Both can reject trades to 21 teams. We doubt that they'll actually be moved, but the Phillies are at least willing to listen. Tue, Dec 10, 2013 09:00:00 AM

I'm pretty sure there it would not be possible to fit guys with salaries like Lee and Hamels into our budget.

Breaking down the box SUNDAY

Medlen: waiting to see. Heard that he threw one more pitch after shaking out elbow. That's just nuts on his part. Hope strain means muscle.

Vasquez: been hurt, making his first spring appearance. Was let down by defense (two errors) and the Mets ran wild on Lerud kid. Also for the second time this spring, Lamm only made a big inning worse.

Good to see good inning from Perez. Braves are hanging with him since he his lefty who throws it 95.

Lipka in game as PR, steals base. Telling you, Fredi is gonna fall in love with him and insist he come north.Won't happen, but I'm just saying ..

Pena 2-4, 2 2B, RBI. We've been looking in the wrong place all along. THIS GUY should be the starting second baseman (.364)

BJ 1-2, BB Yay.

Hamitlon 3-4, 2 2B, 2 R. They may actually cut Rojas and make this guy the Gwinnett 1B? Tell me I heard that wrong, please.

Greene 0-4, 3 K. Just a fallen star, minor league variety.

Lipka as 25th man might make sense. Terdo is the other favorite but he's been a poor pinch hitter and that's a big part of the job.

I think they should toggle these guys back and forth to AAA. Get some regular AB's down there, get their feet wet in the bigs. Cunningham, Pastornicky, same thing.

Using options and starting service time is not a big deal with guys who in all probability won't be long term Braves anyhow.

What a crappy day. Easily my favorite Brave. Hope its not serious and he only misses a month. Meds is really figuring it out and has become one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball. I have faith in our starting pitching depth to hold the fort for a month or two but if Meds is out for the year you can kiss the playoffs goodbye.

Lets stop complaining about people who don't paint the Braves with all roses (like I do). I don't agree with most of the concerned posts but it results in great discussion which is what this board is all about.
