With the season being so close and them not wanting to cancel games wasting 3 days would be crazy.

MLB is at the following numbers per Evan Drellich:

CBT- $220 million through 2024, then it's raised to 224 and 230 in '25 and '26. No increase on the tax rates.

Prearb bonus pool- $25 million

Minimum salary- $675,000, which is an 18% increase

The owners dropping the harsher cap breaking penalties and the players dropping the changes to Super 2 are the biggest bits of news.

Players want a CBT cap at $245M, which seems pretty close to the owners' $220M proposal. This gap can certainly be bridged imo.

Players want $775k min salary that increases with service time. If the owners agree to increasing their $675k proposal each year of service that seems like an easy compromise.

The fact the players got the pre-arb pool created at all is a huge win, even if the $25M value is much less than the $115M they asked for. This is an entirely new compensation structure that can be further negotiated in the future. Hopefully the owners come up a bit and this gets hammered out.

A deal by 5 today would be awesome.

FWIW MLB has pumped to the media last night & today that there’s momentum toward a deal. Now saying the players tone has changed. So if a deal isn’t done today it’s our fault. This isn’t a coincidence. We’ve had the same tone all along. We just want a fair deal/to play ball.

The union vehemently disagrees that their tenor changed main talks. It was told that MLB will make a take-it-or-leave-it offer by 5 pm

- No changes to CBT thresholds (220/220/220/224/230)
- A $5M increase on pre-arb bonus pool from $25M to $30M
- An increase of minimums from $675K to $700K, moving up $10K/year

Once the union formally responds, and barring a stunning surprise, MLB is expected to make their official announcement of a delayed 2022 regular season.
