I find it funny people will criticize Fauci forever on him admitting they lied about masks initially so people wouldn't hoard them and they'd needed to have enough supplies for actual medical people.
As if people in this country weren't hoarding and panic buying hand sanitizer, toilet rolls, and paper towels over some false text messages and facebook posts, and we saw how that created major shortages. People were panic buying gas and fuel.

Would you rather have had our frontline medical workers be severely unsupplied or have people buying every mask on amazon and keeping it in their house.
If Fauci said "please do not buy more n95 masks than you need, so we can keep hospitals and frontline workers sufficiently supplied"
The conspiracy theorists would just say "what is he not telling us this thing might be worse than he's leading on" then all the masks are hoarded and bought by the same idiots who were hoarding toilet paper.
You truly underestimate how easily swayed the public can be when people see their neighbors and friends rushing to the store to buy toilet paper.

If those were my two choices, yes, I would’ve preferred honesty from health/public officials.
And I would’ve preferred the FDA and CDC get out of the way and let us import masks sooner than they did. As with many aspects of the COVID crisis, roadblocks from those agencies exacerbated bad situations.
