The Coronavirus, not the beer

yep

it's wild watching it now and seeing the parallels to covid and how it has gone down etc

My girlfriend's brother is dating this otherwise lovely woman, but COVID has turned her into the biggest germaphobe. She was starting to kind of turn the corner a bit as Omicron freaked her out beyond anything else before it. Where we live was hit especially hard. She was easing back then he decided to watch Contagion with her. Needless to say it was not the smartest move for his sanity.

There are still idiots on this board who believe masks are crucial.

They are useless.

They've been lied to for two years. And they were too stupid to look at the data right in front of their double masked face.

It has to be embarrassing

are you still gong on about masks.?

For 2 years same old tired sh*t

I agree the government liars have been pushing the same **** for two years.

I'd be embarrassed too if I fell for it.

Have you woken up? Or do you still believe in the face diapers?

i thought the Bangladesh study on mask efficacy was dispositive

but one of the supposedly "level headed" posters (same dude with the great concern for dogs in australia, so i should have known) around here immediately countered with a "rebuttal" from a blogger that goes by gato malo (as I recall)

it is what it is

once upon a time i thought thethe and sturg (and maybe one or two others) were nuts and the others were people i could disagree with but were basically of sound body and mind...the scales have fallen from mine eyes

Yeah, we've known for a while that masks wouldn't do a whole lot when you're indoors with someone infected for hours at a time. Wearing a raincoat isn't going to keep you dry if you jump in a pool.

As I've said from the beginning, if wearing a mask reduced chances of transmission by even a few percent while out and about in public, it would be worth it to me. The cost is so low that even a small benefit was worthwhile.

There seems to be this idea that you're either in the camp that wears masks 24 hours a day and believes fervently that they're 100% effective or else you're in the group that believes they were always useless. The reality is somewhere in between. That masks likely have some utility in extending the exposure required for transmission and so have some utility in situations where you'll have relatively brief contact with others (e.g. at the store, waiting for a table in a restaurant, etc.)

That being said, I've followed the CDC guidance and am no longer masking as my area is not an area of high transmission. Also, people that mask outdoors or alone in their own car baffle me. That was just paranoia and not following any evidence or logic.

long live gato malo!

and berenson!

and cerno!

and ngo!

god bless their hearts

god bless all of you

The academic values the messenger more than the info.

My two year old niece has been more accurate on this pandemic than people like Ferguson, Fauci, and walenski... And certainly nsacpi.

Just take the L dude.

Also, your area is no longer an area of high transmission bc the CDC changed the definition of high transmission. Nothing in reality changed

So a few quick notes. As I enjoy your takes 90% of the time striker.

First masks themselves have varying degrees of efficacy, and that also lies in the issue. If you wear an N95 properly, odds of catchign covid are essentially 0. The chances of you transmitting it are essentially 0. The issue is that wearing it properly is kind of hard. Especially in an indoor setting. As it takes a bit to drink/eat etc. Surgical masks are more effective than the average cloth mask, but the issue with cloth masks is lack of standard. A cloth mask could range from multiple layers of material with a filter to thin material that provided nothing. All of them have issues. People I know who have worn masks properly the whole pandemic who've gotten it have gotten it from significant others or hanging out maskless in bars/restaurants. There is some value to that as so many people I know work closely with others.

Also maybe it's the nice person inside of me but generally I assume people wearing masks in cars are doing it because they forgot to take it off or they're travelling place to place and don't feel like putting it on again or it's an N95 and kind of a pain to put on.

i want to say i have utmost respect for gato malo, berenson, cerno and ngo, and the people who turn to them for reliable independent information.

"How is it that people don't want to have an intellectual conversation with me?"
