Honestly, I feel Freeman will be the better overall player. Something about Olson screams that he will be prone to slumps with that long swing.
However, after Freemans comments, chippers interview, etc. I feel like this was overall the correct move. As an organization, we are turning the page and creating a new identity behind a lot of hispanic players. Albies, Acuna, Rosario, Jansen, etc. will bring a ton of flare to our club this year and will be fun to watch

Yeah it was. Chipper saying he feels like he lost a brother and if Freddie could go back in a time a week it would probably be different. That tells me that Freeman would have intervened and got the deal done himself. If Freddie Freeman could take it all back I’m sure he would.
I love Olson the player don't get me wrong. I think the deal will work out very well for the Braves.
Freeman has done it for longer and is still a much safer bet to be great the next few years.
I think we are going to really miss one of those prospects so the calculus goes Freeman + good major leaguer for Olson.
I don't like that trade.

Over the next 5 years I think Olson has the better numbers. Olson will have better hitters around him in the lineup here than he had in Oakland and will make him better also.

FF at what he demanded of Atlanta or what he signed?
What is our actual budget and expected growth?
I still think I’d rather have FF. Even more so given the current payroll.
Like I said in the Olson thread I don’t like having that much in 1b.
I would have wanted to use prospect capital on an impact outfielder. But maybe that deal wasn’t there.
If I could get renyolds for any package without Harris plus soler at 1b I think I’d prefer that. I’d move Harris if I didn’t have to give up much else. That would give me a stud cf with Ronnie and I can fill lf a ton of ways. I’m not valuing first base in the field much.

With that long swing how well will he age? That's a concern.
good thing we’ll figure it out by the time he hits his mid 30s whereas freeman is entering his mid 30s.
Olson also got called up later I thought. So he doesn’t have the same mileage as Freddie at this age.

Yeah that's where it gets difficult and I think it depends on how successful you expect the best of those prospects to be. I don't place a lot of value on 2 WAR guys, they're always available relatively cheaply. If one of those guys is able to get much above that it will change the math a lot
I just don't want him to become a has-been like Rizzo became at age 30.
I think I’d prefer Freeman at 5/140 plus Lango for 6 years. However, that option wasn’t on the table, and freeman only took the worse deal when he and his agent collapsed his own market.
I do love reading the board experts talk about Olsons “long swing” though lol.
Somehow this makes me feel better.

I prefer Olson with Freeman 6 / 172
We weren’t given the same option as the Dodgers, unfortunately, so I think AA made the best decision with information he had.

I disagree. I don't think the headliners—Pache and Langaliers—had the same sort of value to other clubs as they did to the A's. For instance, as I've said: I think there's pretty much no chance those two, even with sweeteners like Cusick and Estes, gets the team Bryan Reynolds. So Anthopoulos used them in a trade with a team that would value them more highly, and his return was pretty damn good (extension notwithstanding, obviously).
Don’t you have to add into the equation the players ATL is signing with the extra money we saved with Olson the first few years of his deal?
The players we are signing with the extra cash are proven. What are the odds all or even the majority of the pieces we traded will make an impact?
