Global Events & Politics Überthread

This part is interesting too:

42. Connecticut: 11.4

43. Delaware: 11.3

44. Illinois: 10.9

45. Rhode Island: 10.8

46. California: 10.6

47. Maryland: 10.3

48. Massachusetts: 8.6

49. New York: 8.3

50. New Jersey: 8

51. District of Columbia: 6.1

looks like there is less despair...at least deaths from despair in these blue states

Id move from this blue state to Idaho or Montana in a split second.

Georgia is one of the few red (now purple) states to rank high in terms of increasing life expectancy. I give the health care programs there a lot of credit. Someone has been doing something right in Georgia. Places like Idaho and Montana haven't done so well by their residents. At least by the most basic of metrics: how long people live.

People don't look at health care programs here. They eat their way into the ER and rinse and repeat.

Saying Idaho and Montana aren't desirable places to live bc of suicide rate is dumb.

The data suggest otherwise. Georgia has done extraordinarily well compared to red states in terms of increasing life expectancy. I don't know what the secret sauce is, but something has worked down there. Some of it is probably an artifact of people (with relatively healthy habits) moving to Georgia from blue states. But not all.

The good news if you move to Idaho is if you get sick it is a relatively short helicopter ride to Oregon or Washington.

Long life expectancy isn't all that desirable to me. Now I certainly don't wanna die in my 50s, but living in your 80s when you hurt and can barely get around would suck too.

Do we have the data on the ideologies of the people that are committing suicide?

Of course the lecturer makes an absurd correlation that red state suicides equals red person suicide.

I'm not sure there are data on suicides by ideology. It is an interesting question.
