REAL FOOTBALL Thread

I'm sure there are plenty of QB's that could have messed it up over there. I'll wait and see before I say its all the system. Basically you could make hte same argument for any productive QB in the league. Every QB needs weapons.

Every QB needs weapons. But you don't need a totally tricked out offense.

Panthers cutting Steve Smith today. Would absolutely love for the Falcons to pick him up on a short deal. Can never have enough weapons, could ditch the TE and just go to a 3 WR set. No one would stack the box with Smith, Julio, and Roddy out wide.

Ravens supposedly want Smith. Wouldn't make too much sense for thme though since they already have a speedster in Jones. Who they should have gone after was Boldin but eh.

On that note early look at the Falcons looks pretty good. Assuming they go with Mack in the first they only have a hole at FS and RT which really shouldn't be hard to get someone who was better than DeCoud. I think Konz or Hawley can play well between 2 good guards. Something neither of them have had the luxury.

Falcons look better already I'm assuming they go defensively with

RDE - Babs
NT - Sollai
LDE - Jackson
Rushend - Mack
MLB - Spoon
MLB - Worrilow
Dropend - Biermann/Bartu (open battle)

That's a solid front 7. Bunch of big uglies on the line to take up blockers if you have Babs and Mack on the same side you can get pressure on a QB. I'm guessing Osi gets some pass rush play time.

Falcons need something for RT or LT though. If Baker goes down they have nothing there.

I say try to sign Oher, he's the best available FA OT. Locks up as many holes as possible.

Some tricky throws but most of his passes were to wide open players. The thing that Foles has going for him is he's smart. But his weapons are sick. On any other team he'd struggle.

Eagles have Jackson who's a sick WR, Riley who's a good possession WR, 2 great TEs, one of the best RBs in the league. Of course their OL is great as well with Peters, Matthis, Kelce, Herremans and Johnson.

Factor in that everyone was healthy except for Maclin, AND they were running a new-ish offense that the league hadn't seen.

I think he's due for legit regression this year.

Foles has always had talent. He was a talented guy in college that just never could put it together for some reason. I agree on lack of altheticism, but the dude has a good arm.

He doesn't do anything really well.

He has an OK arm, not a cannon. Doesn't rifle it in there.

He didn't show great anticipation or that he can lead receivers all that well, at least last year.

He's basically just smart, and I'm not sure how far that can carry him. A lot of QBs would have done very well in that offense last year. Maybe not the same fluky numbers, but look good.

Byrd's cap hit in 2014 is only 3.5 million.

That contract is ugly. Cap hit of 10.3 million next year.

YEAR BASE S. BONUS MISC. CAP HIT DEAD
2014 1,300,000 2,200,000 - 3,500,000 18,300,000
2015 2,000,000 2,200,000 6,100,000 10,300,000 14,800,000

At least we can agree here.

I think he'll regress a little, to what extent, thats TBD.

Its setup brilliantly. Next year they guarantee his 6 mill roster bonus. They will guarantee that and drop his cap hit to 6 mill. Signing bonuses can only be prorated over 5 years. So when they guarantee that roster bonus its over 5 years for max effect. They will keep pushing the cap hits back till after brees is done. With a 35 year old qb thete is no year 2.
