Nashville Preparing Bid For MLB Expansion Team

Wouldn't surprise me to see Charlotte make a run at a team too. If those two got teams it would pull Tennessee and probably both Carolinas out of our region.

This needs to happen for the health of MLB.

And it will.

The As will move to Las Vegas, the Rays will move to Montreal, and Nashville will get a team.

That leaves several cities fighting for that number 32 spot.

I prefer Charlotte.

Charlotte ? Surely you jest and are trying to stir up trouble.

I don't think having just the Braves in the South is good for the sport.

1. The South is growing faster than anywhere else in the country.

2. The South is home to most of the African-American population, which baseball desperately needs back.

I would like a division with Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, and Miami.

No, it doesn't.

MLB is better off when the Braves are better. Nothing about your suggestion puts the Braves in a more favorable position.

Put the expansion teams in Vegas and somewhere else out west...maybe Portland.

It would be interesting to see what would happen with an MLB team in Charlotte.

The biggest markets without a team currently are (in order of size): Orlando, Sacramento, Portland, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Indianapolis, Nashville, Salt Lake, Hartford, Columbus, Greenville-Spartanburg, Austin, Vegas, Grand Rapids, Harrisburg, Jacksonville, OKC, Birmingham, Norfolk, Greensboro, Albuquerque, Louisville, New Orleans, Memphis.

A lot of those are consolidated in the northern part of the southeast (for lack of a better term) with Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Nashville, Greenville-Spartanburg, Greensboro, Louisville, Memphis. The question is does MLB think there are enough fans in that region who would latch onto a team in Nashville or Charlotte, or do they think all of those people are Braves fans anyways and they'd be better off with a city like Portland or Salt Lake City that is much more isolated without any other big markets in the region.

A team in Charlotte likely draws fans from other reasonably large markets (Greensboro, Raleigh-Durham, Greenville-Spartanburg) whereas a team in Portland really just draws fans from Portland.

Speaking as a Raleigh-Durham native, it would be hard to see a team there. I'd never stop being a Braves fan, but I could definitely see myself getting more and more attached to a local team as I take kids to games and it becomes part of my life.

FWIW Charlotte and Greenville-partanburg are in the Atlanta market area. Raleigh and Greensboro are in the Nats market area. Draw what you will from that but with the way MLB is trending away from network TV towards the streaming venues will make a difference. NFL and NBA teams in Charlotte seem to be doing well and Hurricanes have been a big surprise to me.

Further to my point, at my age and decrepity I no longer drive to Atlanta and wouldnt even consider a road trip to DC. Also, Im giving serious thought to not renewing my MLB TV subscription due to all the blackouts. So personally I hope (if I can last that long) to see a team in the Triad area.

LOL. Spoken like a true fan.

Las Vegas belongs to the Athletics.

Tampa Bay will move to Montreal.

Portland is definitely an option for an expansion team with Nashville and Charlotte.

Exactly right. I'm a fan of the Braves, not the league.

If the Braves were to be contracted I would probably watch zero MLB games, and the league could fade into oblivion as far as I'm concerned.

My position probably doesn't align with what Manfred and company believes is best to grow their business. I concede that.

I think the sport could expand. I think there is enough talent and interest. If we have a million teams in the playoffs, more teams will make the playoffs a little more elite.

I don't know if any NC city can really support a team. Raleigh wants one, but I don't think so. Charlotte has enough, I'm not sure they will support MLB with NFL and NBA there.

I was thinking of expansion in Canada and Mexico. But I don't know if they have interest or would support a team to be fair. But a team in Vancouver/Montreal and one in Mexico City.
