Global Events & Politics Überthread

The whole world is trying to de-escalate tensions aside from the monsters running the US (who are in power illegally mind you).

So when is Vlad the Dim gonna call an end to his war and stop sending young Russian boys and young non-Russian boys to be massacred. Every day Ukraine becomes better armed and stronger. The writing is on the wall.

He tried to negotiate no conflict at all.

Even your girl Yonanovich let the cat out of the bag.

You are supporting monsters which makes sense since you are a monster yourself.

If I can ask again can somebody articulate America's interest in this conflict?

I understand nobody wants to take on the "what is causing more pain for Americans, Russias invasion or America's response" question, because the answer is so obviously the latter.

But maybe we can at least understand why we are so invested in this. The lecturer indicated it is to reduce Ukrainian immigration. Is that the extent of it?

I have not seen any published incentive saying to reduce Ukrainian immigration.

Truth be told, just seen "to protect Ukrainian sovereignty"

We do a lot of things that we have no legal obligation to do. It is in our interest that Russian expansionism either be stopped or that Russia pay a very heavy price for it. China and Taiwan and many other countries are watching closely and drawing their conclusions. The aid we are sending to Ukraine is money well spent. I know some are uncomfortable to be in a political alliance with someone like Trudeau. But international politics makes for strange bedfellows at times. If we could be allies with Stalin in stopping Hitler, surely we can stand with Trudeau in opposing Vlad the Dim.

Money would be much better spent stopping the invasion on our southern border.

Russia controlling more territory is ABSOLUTELY irrelevant for AMericans. They are not the CCP.

What is it that puts out national interest at stake if Russia expands to Ukraine?

As in, what is the consequence of that that outweighs the current inflation's and supply chain issues that we are dealing with now

Its a disgusting lie to say that Russia taking back RUssian speaking provinces of Eastern Ukraine poses any threat.

We used our big gun on a baby while the CCP benefits the most.

Only idiots think this was the right approach.

History provides many examples where aggressive expansionist powers are appeased or tolerated, only to lead to wider more destructive conflicts. This is our opportunity to make sure that Vlad the Dim understands the price is exceedingly high for such adventures, and that the CCP also reaches similar conclusions.

There are many ethnic and linguistic minorities around the world that various countries could use as a pretext for stirring up conflict with their neighbors. We have a general interest in discouraging the use of war to resolve those kinds of issues. Lithuania and Estonia have provinces with significant Russian-speaking populations.

While the west poked Putin for a decade.

You're such a clown.

I have no problem with spending relatively small amounts of money, mostly in the form of second rate or aging weapons, to help Ukraine maintain independence and weaken a bad global actor. Long term this will make focusing on the ChiComs easier, we've proven that large American presence in Europe is no longer necessary.

In nsacpi's eyes overthrowing a democratically elected government shouldn't be responded to.

Its the pompous nature of the post war rules based international order that leads to international disasters.

You guys are done for moving forward and the world will be better off.

Your own people said the war would not have happened if Trump was in power.
