Dumb is dumb my friend. And the rest of us shouldn't have to pretend otherwise. The world is not some sort of safe place for a particular variety of snowflake. Sorry for any hurt feelings and all that jazz. When my students come up with dumb **** I offer them an opportunity to give the next lecture and I sit quietly in the back with my popcorn. It helps them learn faster that way. Scorn is a powerful teaching tool. I don't have to say a thing because the other students take them apart. People should not be coddled for dumbness and dumb ideas.

But it is a shame that the splendid example of the people of western North Carolina was not embraced by the voters of NW Georgia. They showed it is possible to react in a mature manner when a bad egg is found in their midst. Not all voters have been embracing the bad egg just cuz of liberal scorn.

I agree dumb is.dumb and should mocked and scorned.

It's why I've enjoyed making fun of the dumbest man on this board for the last five years. When you get literally everything wrong every time, you should be mocked into oblivion.

I feel bad for your students but you are a professor so they should know better than to be lectured by an overpaid fake intellectual who does nothing but send them down wrong paths

Nope. I will always scorn idiocy. C'est la vie. If the Republic must burn because of that so be it. The world cannot be a safe space for a particular variety of snowflake.

The story hasn't changed from 2016. Trump realized there was anger and frustration about being looked down as unsophisticated rubes among the crowd you look down on as unsophisticated rubes. He openly addressed it. It worked.

One might expect the self styled intellectuals to rub a few brain cells together and realize after some self reflection that their condescension provided fertile ground for anyone willing to speak to it. Our intellectual elites decided to double down instead, after all, who do those upstart commoners think they are?

This guy still can't admit he fell for a hundred different fake news stories after the fact and he is gonna lecture about scorning the gullible

The lack of self reflection is something I've never witnessed so blatantly but he is an academic and one of the dumbest at that

Stupidity is very much a “both sides” issue

Hopefully no one is voting for Maxine or AOC cuz they feel scorned, disrespected and condescended to by the other side. The world needs more Larry Summers who offers tough minded and often sharply worded critiques of dumb ideas from people on his side of the political spectrum. He doesn't mince words and doesn't treat the AOCs of the world as some sort of snowflakes to be treated with kid gloves.

Dude, I was not aware that you are a professor. Tell me more, if you wouldn't mind.

I'm not an academic. I got sidetracked into banking a long time ago. I do some teaching of economics and finance. Most of it is for courses that banks sponsor for their junior bankers. It is a sort of finishing school. I teach them which fork to pick up at a fancy dinner. How to light a cigar. Stuff like that.

They work in a world full of risk. I try to help them understand those risks and how to manage them. Mostly by looking at financial crises, ancient and recent. I try to put the fear of God in them to counter the laissez les bon temps rouler ethos that seems to pervade the business. Some of their predecessors jumped out of tall buildings during financial panics. They need to understand that.

True. Extremes are almost always a bad idea and a certain amount of temperance and to be a little bit French myself (since you used the French phrase) some "rolling with the prevailing winds" would seem to be a good idea on things like financial plans.

I would have to think it helps you to have students who want to be there rather than the "captive audiences" of the public schools and some colleges.

My students are generally a great group. I've taught at a couple colleges too. Those students are great too. They want to learn and appreciate being challenged. I had a long conversation with one from years ago via linkedin a couple nights ago. He sent me a picture of himself and his son from his son's graduation at Emory. It's nice to hear back from them.

And yet I still respect Warnock less. Walker is a clown but Warnock's form of charlatanism is much more insidious.

I keep hoping for the day I'll be able to vote for someone I actually respect.
