Texas elementary school shooting…

how dare you interrupting our doing nothing to prevent the next massacre.

The thing about mental health is believing in a magic man in the sky is considered normal. A staggering amount of crazy people who commit the worst crimes in corporate religion into their mental illness.

You aren't well. My gosh dude, how much would it really cost to get some seeds and grow lights?

We live in a different time. Gun culture is so romanticized now. Instead of a gun being an accessory to protect your family at home, it has become a show and tell toy for many. Gotta show people on social media how many guns I own. Cowards and pussies hide behind their guns now.

Reinstate assault weapons ban.

Keep your handguns, hunting rifles.

Anyone wanting to get a gun for the first time, takes and pays out of pocket for gun certification training classes and instruction. Not a one-day seminar for showing up either. A few month process of training. At least if some mentally ill incel is in a class with others and has to socialize, someone training with them might be able to red flag them before they are able to buy one legally.

Get less guns in circulation. That is less guns for "bad guys" to easily get their hands on. Everytime there's a tragedy, the fearmongering comes in immediately from the right. BETTER GET YOUR GUNS AND AMMO NOW BECAUSE NEXT WEEK THEY'RE GONNA BE TAKEN AWAY.

And for the record, I actually own a Glock. My dad has one as well as both of my brothers. it's never showcased, seen and always hidden. And we don't walk around in public carrying because we fantasize stopping some supermarket shooter.

I remember the assault weapons ban. My lib dem father who never fired a gun in his life went out and bought a couple of TEC 9s and stashed them under his bed. A few years later the same guns were used at Columbine. While they were banned.

Fwiw- I’d be fine having to be 21 for a AR, and wait up to 6 months. Also stating then intended purpose on federal docs.

But I’m sure that’s not good enough for some

I tried to have a serious conversation with some gun control guys yesterday, talking about what it would take to get something meaningful done without both sides thinking the other side was out to screw them. I said, 'how about a 10 round limit on all detachable magazines, and universal background checks (provided free by govt) for all sales commercial and profit. In return, Constitutional Carry is codified along the GA lines, everyone not a criminal or committed in the past few years can carry without a license.'

They said gun nut takes like that were why compromise couldn't get done.

Someone did a number on him. I picture his posts with him smoking a blunt blasting NWA's F the police while burning bibles.

There are some pretty simple school safety measures that could be instituted pretty quickly with funding.

-Have all doors giving access to the school locked at all times during the school day.
-Have only one entrance for visitors and have that on a camera and buzzer system.
-Have the visitor entrance guarded by an armed guard at all times during the school day.
-Reinforce doors and windows as necessary.

There's no way you can make schools 100% safe. You can have every door bullet proof and locked but that doesn't prevent a shooter from being let in by someone inside or prevent a shooter from attacking when kids are outdoors. But these are deterrents. They make attacking a school much more difficult and a shooter who is wanting to go out in a blaze of infamy will want to choose softer targets. It might make them choose a target other than a class full of 8 year olds.

This monster walked through an unlocked door without anyone challenging him. That's unacceptable.

In before one of the “we never do anything” crew says “oh so that’s the type of world you want to live in, where school doors are locked and reinforced?!?”

All pretty good ideas to try, IMO.

Glad to see restricting access to HS tracks is not on your list. Muh rights.

I'm all for having honest, in-depth talks about gun control and working to arrive at some well reasoned and effective solutions there. I'm also for working hard to improve mental health access and interventions. But those are long term problems. If Congress passed spending tomorrow we could see a lot of schools with increased security measures by the time students return in the fall. They're measures that can be implemented quickly and would actually help prevent attacks like this.

I think using adult joggers on tracks diversions serves everyone.

Absolutely. We are a tightly knit little group that strictly scrutinizes strangers. The first line of security. Plus one of us is not a runner but a golfer who hits balls on the adjacent fields. His clubs would be very useful weapons in the case of danger. Plus he has a dog who fetches his golf balls. We could train that dog. Just sayin.

As a lawyer I assume you are in favor of strict scrutiny. At least in these circumstances.

Is the killer from a wealthy family? Seems he spent a nice amount of money on his guns, ammo, and armor. Maybe times have changed, but I can't think of any of my friends at that age that could make that purchase with their own money

I think he just had a plate carrier which is a common weighted vest for working out . I could be wrong though

Even better, let schools use the billions of unspent COVID relief dollars they’re already sitting on. We’re not getting that money back anyway.
