I literally don't know a single person who left the state and moved back to it
I know some. Including my daughter.

I absolutely love to visit larger cities, but I'll never move out of the country. I can jump in my Jeep and ride trails on my own property, pee in my front yard if I like, fish, grow a garden, bon fires, or just sit in the front yard on a swing listening to nature. Don't have to lock my doors. No worries in house, MS.
My son has a nice apt in midtown in Atlanta. I hear his neighbors through the walls. He has neighbors he doesn't even know their name. Traffic is ridiculous. Just not my cup of tea
+ higher life expectancy and a healthier population generally
+ a more productive workforce and all that jazz
not that NJ is perfect...it has its own colorful set of problems
You can pee in your front yard in NY too. Except sturg would cite it as an example of the place going to hell in a handbasket. Most nights when I go for a walk I see people fishing. Either in the river or harbor.

Compared to?
Well I'm not surprised to see the biggest contrarian indicator I've ever known be the one to buck the trend
other states
NJ ranks very high in things like life expectancy, income, educational attainment
Sounds racists ish

Thats because you have Wall Street guys that live in Jersey that bring up the average. You and I both know the ghetto's are bad in Jersey outside of these uber Posh areas.
Then you also have a concentration of over-educated people that contribute little to the actual 'intelligence' of the state.
With that being said - I could see either NE Jersey or north Atlanta as my next destination.
The horse country (NW) is beautiful. Delaware Water Gap is easily one of the most scenic places in the country.
