2022 MLB Draft Thread

Kinda expect Murphy, Ritchie, Phillips, and Keller to all be over slot - with the amounts potentially split fairly evenly between them so that they'll all sign. McCabe, Franks, Acton, and Keck are probably all under slot guys, meaning any additional money can possibly be spent if there's someone they really like that slips to them today. If those numbers work out and there's no overage signing the guys taken in rounds 1-10, there should be an additional $600K or so to splurge on someone - that's 3rd round money.

Agree on all the first four except Murphy. It seems like a lot of draft people were surprised he went at 20, so I'd imagine he's under slot.

Same. I think he’s underslot, and they use those savings to pay Ritchie slightly overslot and Phillips more overslot. I could see all three earning around the same bonus pool number (I’m spitballing ~$2.5m, but what the hell do I know).

11th rounder is RHP Ian Mejia from New Mexico State. Numbers are pretty unimpressive and I can't find him on anyone's rankings, so I've got nothing here.

We’ll have to wait and see, but this seems to indicate there isn’t much in the way of savings to float past the first ten rounds. The eleventh has been one of the rounds where those shots are shot (Grissom, Shoemaker).

12th rounder is a 1B from the University of Illinois who only hit six homers. So yeah, I'd say we're out of money.

Not entirely sure about that - Notre Dame is a pretty big deal for Chicago-area people. At least all the ones I've ever met or talked to.

Scouting snippets indicate he has really good bat-to-ball skills, but a flat bat-path. Presumably the Braves think they can unlock power.

The allergy to LHPs this year is intriguing. Presumably they’ve decided it’s not a strong draft for LHPs, but it seems like a deficit in the lower-tiers of the system.

Worth noting Cédric De Grandpré yet another Canadian to be drafted this year by Anthopoulos & Friends.

I can't imagine handedness at the lower levels of the minor leagues is something that matters to the scouting department. Just draft the best players.

Another trend to follow (as someone mentioned earlier) - ALL of these guys are a bit on the smallish side. Only Cole, Franks, and Mejia are taller than 6'2".

Only Keller is below 6-feet tall, so I’m not sure that’s much to make of. The bigger commonality is they’re all meant to be very good athletes.

A non-RHP:

485. Atlanta Braves: E.J. Exposito, SS, Long Island University

The Braves do have quite a few SS/2B from the last couple drafts. I suppose that—along with the international field, and probably not a lot of conviction for the MIF available to them—lead them to eschew that bin.

Athletic pitchers. Pitcher with good command. Canadians. Florida JUCO players.

HS OFer taken in 18... Noah Williams... wonder what his upside is like, although I doubt he will sign as a senior in round 18

One thing going for the Braves is apparently he doesn't yet have a college commitment. Switch-hitter with a good frame. Solid, but not outstanding, speed; a little above-average EVs for his age. His PG profile lists "good student," and he lists his GPA on his twitter bio, so he has that going for him.
