Minor league thread

Grissom with a hr and 103 mph double.

Could he be our 2b option this year? Ss next year?

Obviously 11 games is too SSS, however, his season is shaping up to be un real. If in a month, Albies is still not back and he is still destroying AA ball, it may be the play. It was after 43 games that AA felt he had to bring up Harris, and that seems to be working.

How ****ty would Dansby feel if he lost his job in Atlanta because he was too good in a contract year combined with an unexpected your guy showing up?

My play on Dansby would be to give him a QO after the season. Out of all the SS available this offseason a qualifying offer would hurt him the most. He would probably accept so he could be free in a weaker market next offseason. That would give us an extra year to groom Vaughn Grissom.

That would be a sweet outcome.

I’m not even sure the QO exists anymore.

It does still exist. They were going to do away with it if an agreement was reached about an International Draft, but they recently announced nothing could be agreed upon.

The QO is the right move for Dans. No question. If he took it that would work out very well for club.

I just don’t see any team giving Dansby 20+ million a year this offseason. A QO would really hurt him. I think he’d accept it and avoid the competition for the following offseason. But it’s a double edged sword bc if he did accept then he’d have to play for another contract (which would help us) and be a year older. Win win for us.

the QO is the play for Dansby this offseason, i think someone would pay him. But the SS market will probably have Correa, Trea, Xander, along with Dansby. Do 4 teams need shortstops for 100+ mil? Maybe/probably, hard to say who. I dont think he'd accept but for the team, it would be best if he did.

Just do what Encheff suggested. Let the chips fall for the big players and there will be a good player that will want a short term high AAV to retest market. Delay another year until we know what Grissom could be and maybe get a solid pick for Swanson.

Unfortunately for Dansby, he is the type of player that a QO could potentially really hurt. He's probably better off accepting it and hitting the free agent market the following year. Remember, the QO yearly salary would be a pretty nice raise for him, and he seems happy here. Would be a win-win.

Still curious to see if AA attempts a contract extension prior to that, but might be too late.

Probably too late to sign Dansby, and agree it's probably best for both sides if he accepts the QO to prove this isnt a fluke and to hit the market where it's not nearly as crowded at shortstop.

Bae strikes me as someone would would take a higher AAV for a shorter term. Maybe 3/75 with an option. Not saying I would do it, but I could see someone like Dodgers or Yankees working out a deal like that if they don't feel like shelling out 175 million (or more) for 1 of the big 3 FAs.

I guess I disagree with everyone on this thread. I do not think there is any way Dansby will willingly take the QO and try to prove it was not a fluke. He has an opportunity right now to make the biggest contract of his life and he WANTS it. He will not give the braves a "hometown discount", he will not allow the braves to see if Grissom is the replacement of the future, he will not trust his future earnings will be safe in case of regression, injury, or just market conditions. He will stay if we offer him a ton of money or no one else offers him a ton of money.

Dansby's life dreams
1) Play for your home town team - check
2) Win it all (preferably on your home town team) - check
3) Get as rich as possible playing the game you love - this year with little risk
....
25) Be happy playing for your home town team above all else

Yankees have a couple prospects ready soon. I think Dodgers give Turner a big deal. But you never know with Friedman.

Are you sure those aren't your life goals and not Bae's?

Not saying that's not what Swanson wants but not every player is like that.

I mean, nobody is saying Dansby would prefer the QO to the long term deal. But that's just an unfortunate reality for certain players that they have to face one time, before going for the big contract the following year.

8 teams currently pay a SS more than $15 million a year, NYM and LAD among them. Those two are currently a combined 57 games over .500. The remaining 6 are a combined 23 games under .500.

The lesson to me is if you are a big market team with an unlimited budget, feel free to invest heavily in a SS. Otherwise, spend elsewhere.

Dansby is having a great year with the bat. What would it cost to get his production out of a LF and the LF production out of a glove first ss? Is the difference insignificant enough to keep Dansby in ATL?

I agree.
This is in all likelihood the best he will ever be.
Why not cash in and get the most you can knowing you probably won’t replicate these numbers again?
Idk if the Braves will pay him or not but I don’t think he settles for a one year deal.
