GDT 8/22/22: Braves @ Pirates - Scrubbing the Odor of Odorizzi

I like Vaughn Grissom as much as anybody but would you trade him for Bryan Reynolds? Reynolds is a legit OF and controllable thru 2025. He can play CF to if we needed. All this hinges on us signing a legit SS.

Definitely. Grissom was a consensus 45 FV prospect 3 weeks ago. He might be legit (I’m hopeful) but you cash that in immediately for a 6 WAR outfielder.

Grissom will probably have a lot of hype on him going into the offseason and the Pirates may like the idea of pairing Grissom with O’Neil Cruz up the middle for a long time. I’m sure Grissom can play the OF if he needed to but no idea how well.

No I would not trade the next great Brave's leader for Nate McClouth 2.0

I'd certainly make the trade, but last year looks like an anomaly for Reynolds. He's wasn't even close to that pace in 2020, and he'll be fortunate to get to 3.0 this season

Is he a 6 fWAR outfielder though? He was last year but is gonna fall well short of even 3-4 fWAR this year. Low BABIP but .350 wOBA vs .327 xwOBA. Seems to scream Nate McClouth skillset to me. Grissom is gonna be a star... may already be. Last year looks like an obvious outlier for someone who is already at 27 years old (peak prime year for most players)

Also the 45 FV prospect doesn't mean much to me... Reynolds was a 45 prospect too. Grissom is a freaking leader and is an on base machine with pop

This is fair. There’s certainly some warning signs. I haven’t dug enough into Reynolds metrics to get a sense of what to expect next year.

I’d still do the trade though.

Gross... trading Grissom would be such a massive mistake... especially for Nate McClouth

I probably wouldn't trade Grissom for Reynolds. Don't the Pirates still have him because they've asked for an insane return the last two deadlines?

We still going to worry about the Harris contract?

Guy will have to improve. He saw a handful of mlb quality breaking balls bc he had so few minor league at bats

If he’s going to be a stud he’s got to get the obp up.

But if he’s a really good cf who can slug 450 plus then he’s got surplus value in the deal.

Obviously a difference between someone with 60 PA and 1600 PA.

Reynolds also has a career 126 wRC+. Even if he’s not the monster he was last year, he’s still a borderline all star.

It’s a silly argument though. Pittsburgh wouldn’t make this trade (at least not right now).

One for one you have to do it. That’s not enough for the pirates.

I hope renyolds get out for his sake. And not in the east.

I wouldn’t empty the farm for him.

Lf shouldn’t be this hard to fill…
