Around the Majors - 2022 Version

The Riley, Olson, and Harris deals aren't as ginormous as Tatis', but this is my fear with long-term deals team-friendly or otherwise.

I didn't realize Bellinger had been this "off" for this long. REAL alarm bells there.... not under long term contract or anything though.

I'm generally on the player's side but this is something that annoys me in the discourse about team friendly deals. There are deals that guys over perform but there are also a lot of Scott Kingery deals too. People never go back and say, good job by the player and the agent getting that money after he got hurt and/or sucked later.

Absolutely. Just have to hope the players you sign aren't knuckleheads. Tatis' situation this year has had zero to do with anything baseball related. Which makes it pretty hilarious since he's not on our team.

Wild-ass idea on the occasion of a sleepy afternoon game against the Pirates:

If you project Grissom to be a solid-to-really-good MLB player, does it make sense to consider trading Albies in the off-season? Between his contract and his overall quality of play, Albies has to possess a ton of surplus value. An Albies trade seems like a good way to either finally fill the left field hole or, probably more appealing, replenish a barren farm system.

P.S. I am not a crackpot.

Oh boy... Here we go... (-:

Riley and Olson are definitely higher risk since they are bat first players that lack athleticism (on the same team). Both are fairly dependent on HRs to be elite. Olson's suffered some this year with a lower HR/FB% despite career highs in EVs.

The only worry I have with Harris is staying healthy. His combination of power (max EV of 114), speed, and defense give him a fairly high floor even if he never develops plate discipline.

Good point. We released Demeritte, so Albies may start to coast.

Seriously, the emergence of Grissom makes for some interesting dynamics. Dealing Albies is probably premature this off-season, but given his contract and surplus value therein, he has value that could fill in our bigger holes.

I’d rather see Dansby walk, let Grissom play SS and sign Judge for LF. With Judge it depends on the years.
