Rotation Down The Stretch

Soroka's injury was major. I have no issue playing it slow and safe with him. I still expect him to get 1-3 MLB starts before the post season to evaluate how he's looking against major leaguers

The starting rotation is really strong right now, so I don’t see a role for him this year.

What I think the Braves will do is pitch Soroka in the final series against Miami (assuming the division is decided by then). The Marlins are essentially a AAA lineup so hopefully he gets good results to build on heading into a full offseason to strengthen his body and be ready to challenge for a rotation spot in spring.

I have been struck by how many bad baseball teams there are this season. Five teams playing below .400 baseball and the niche just above that isn't much better. Not much of a middle class in baseball this year. I thought the Marlins would be a lot better and I thought the Pirates were right in not moving Reynolds seeing the depth of their farm system and the years of control they have on him, but it looks I was dead wrong on both counts.

Yeah Ive noticed this too. When I watch the Braves against many of these teams, it's like "There guys don't have a single good player." Kudos to the Braves for taking care of business against these teams, but EVERYONE is basically taking care of business against these teams. There's four teams on pace for 100+ wins, and the Dodgers will probably have closer to 110. The Yankees and Cards won't be far behind. At least in the AL there is a middle-class, but they are all in the AL Central and play eachother.

How soon does the WC play after season?

The WC games start 10/7. WC series A is WC # 3 at NL Division Winner #3 (Cardinals presumably). WC series B is WC # 2 at WC #1.

Both are 3 game series from 10/7 - 10/9 with no off days

All WC round games for both the AL and NL will be broadcast on ESPN. NLDS/NLCS/WS will be Fox or FS1

Soroka has talked about all the prep work he needs to do to get his “Achilles” stretched out for his starts. After all the time and money the Braves have invested in him to come back from this injury, I would be stunned if they risk it so Soroka can pitch mop up innings.

But if the Braves wanted to schedule Soroka as an opener so they know exactly what day he’s going to pitch than I think replacing Stephens is an option. But he’s probably better off getting as many low stress innings as possible this year.

You say that like the Braves can just up and do it. There are many unmovable players on our 28 man roster especially considering the pitcher limit. I think the Braves haven’t given up on bringing back Soroka this year to the MLB club but it’s more of a break glass scenario and they’re more likely to have him have a normal offseason and compete for a rotation spot next spring.

I’d rather get Yates and Matzek a few more innings to see if they are continuing to recover and can be useable in a playoff bullpen or if they are pretty much shot this year and should be considered being replaced
