GDT 9/11/22: Braves @ Mariners - A must win day game

Snit won’t get up there and throw his guy under the bus. So what he says in the presser is pretty much meaningless. What his actions do the next save opportunity that comes along does.

Now if Snit throws Jansen in there next game in the 9th and this happens then AA has to step in and take control. Jansen has to be showed that he’s not above the team or being demoted. If this were the Dodgers Jansen wouldn’t be closing. Thank God that’s only a 1 year deal.

Thank goodness this happened now instead of in the playoffs. We are only 1.5 back, so I’m not too worried about it - we will win the division.
Still, just glad this has happened now….

Will Smith has been great with the Astros lol he hasn’t given up a run in his last 10 outings

That's the way it works. Relievers go through rough patches but the good ones get their location back pretty quickly. Iglesias could hit a bad stretch too and then where would we be? We need both Iglesias and Jansen to be pitching with confidence come the playoffs, regardless of where we finish.

At least Jansen didn't walk anyone. On the other hand, that pitch to Rodriguez was right down the middle.

No one seriously wants to cut him. Just don’t give him the highest leverage innings with no quick hook. He deserves the same scrutiny that everyone else does.

I refuse to believe that Jansen is all of a sudden a bad pitcher after being so dominant in the first half.

Still, he needs to get it together in a hurry, and Snitker needs to learn to pull him when he clearly doesn’t have it.

Might be time to believe it...

2nd half (16 appearances)
6.32 bb9
4.60 era
6.31 FIP

What time did he have to pull him yesterday?

I mean this wasn't one bad performance. This has been a trend for a while. There have been some saves that were nail biters. It is clear to anyone not napping in the dugout that his control is not there. He is missing his spots and his pitches are not always the best. However, he does want 600 saves and that is more important than any team accomplishments so I guess I am fine with the team losing so that this dog can get some personal accomplishments important to no one other than him.

In what way?

I’m hoping it’s just “manager’s talk” but he was literally saying that Jansen has been great…leads the league in saves…has a short memory….and basically he’s his guy…completing ignoring the fact he’s tops on the league in blown saves as well.

Does anyone else wonder how much control Snit has over something like naming a closer? I wouldn't be surprised if AA dictated things like that.

Whoever is making the call needs to wake up and realize Jansen isn't it anymore.

I think he's just made the determination that he's going to try to treat this like Will Smith last year and hope that he works through it. Although my rebuttal would be that he has more viable closer options this year than he did last year.
