I posted this in the off-season thread. Was there a rule change regarding eligibility for the Rule 5? If not, it would seem that the high school guys from the 2018 draft (along with the international signees from the same year) and the college/junior college guys from the 2019 draft would have to go on the 40-man roster. That would mean Vodnik from 2018 and Vines, Gordon, Milligan, and Shewmake from 2019 would have to go on the 40-man this off-season or be exposed to the Rule 5. Don't know which international signees fall into this category.

I'm not questioning the wisdom of the front office/player development staffs. They see these guys and I don't, but I was a little surprised on Vodnik and Shewmake if the old 4/5 rule was in effect.

when is the rule 5 draft. I have a feeling there will be some shuffling as things progress.

I can see 4-6 pitchers on our 40 man that I would cut over losing VV. No way he is exposed to rule 5.

Most of what I read was more concerned about losing Vines, but I think they would protect Vodnik as well.

I think the reason they put Tonkin and Elledge on the 40-man is that they would become automatic free agents if they weren't because they are six-year guys. That may make some sense at the margins, but not a lot.

The Atlanta #Braves today signed RHP Nick Anderson to a one-year, non-guaranteed split contract for the 2023 season. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club designated INF Rylan Bannon for assignment.

Curious to see if anyone drafts Vodnik in the Rule 5. I think the concern over who is left off the 40-man is often overblown, especially in how teams operate now as opposed to earlier eras. I remember the old Scout board almost exploded and heaps of scorn were visited upon John Hart when the Twins drafted RHP J.R. Graham in the 2014 Rule 5 draft, but as in the case of most Rule 5 picks, Graham's loss didn't amount to anything substantial.

I think Vodnik will be taken in the Rule 5.

Updated today after the Sean Murphy trade. We stand at 36

There's certainly room to add. One thing that sucks about AA is there's no leaks about like anything lol. I guess there were some for Murphy but everything else is leak free. We do have room on the 40 man though, expecting some more moves in the coming weeks.
