Official official offseason thread

1. He could be a very huge benefit to encourage some team to take on Ozunas contract.
2. He could enable AA to pick up a true SS possibly for even the same small amount of money. That SS (only a possibility) would be more than Grissom or Arcia could bring back.
3. We all wonder why AA hasnt dipped into the FA market. We all wonder just how much money he has to play with. We all should be able to see that only viable trade chips of value are Albies and Acuna for a WS contending team. I AM NOT ADVOCATING TRADING ANYONE1111111111111 But I would like to see a well rounded roster take the field in April.

How are we WS contenders by trading our best players?

We are WAY more likely to trade someone like Fried or Wright than either Albies or Acuna.

This comment also doesn’t make sense to me. Are you suggesting that the Mets are going to come back to the table if they are out bid by the Braves but won’t if it is the Dodgers. Are you saying that the Mets won’t just offer their best offer and let the chips fall where they fall.

I think the Mets have a pretty good idea on what max amount they are willing to go and will go up to that point to keep him regardless of what other team is bidding on him.

The Dodgers don't really affect whether or not the Mets make the playoffs. Can you imagine the fan backlash they would receive letting DeGrom go to a division rival, then losing the division, (or worse, missing the playoffs) at the hand of DeGrom? It isn't like this is an uncommon thing either. GMs often refuse to trade star players to division rivals for the very same reason.

Our roster is mostly set, trading Albies or Acuna given the contracts they're on is literally retarded.

As a whole, AA has been more active this November than in any of the previous Novembers, they are just not moves that move the needle or jump out at you.

He's available!

I think the second Ozuna citation should be 2021 and not 2022.

I think it’s absurd that contracts cannot be voided if a player gets a DUI or pleads guilty to spouse abuse..

Taking roids and having a direct affect on the “game” causes blackballing and suspension but anything that could be deemed morally wrong still guarantees the full contract…

I don't disagree with you, but I think the PED (or gambling) issue is slightly different because it potentially affects competition. That said, I wonder if there is a ceiling (clumsy term) on non-disqualifying offenses with offenses above that level allowing an out for a team. I mean if a guy was convicted of murder or child pornography or something in that strata, I would think some kind of morals clause would kick in and the contract would be voided, especially if it resulted in incarceration.

You mean like Felipe Vazquez?

This will be interesting to see what happens this offseason. The Mets will add to their roster, and if they are smart spreading their money around, they could be better than last season. The Phillies will definitely be players for Turner and I feel like they get him. So you'd have both of those teams getting much better. AA doesn't react to other teams in our division with moves, but I am curious to see what he does, because I honestly have no ****ing clue what his plans are. lol

With regards to the Braves... Rotation is mostly set with our top 4 and one of Anderson, Soroka, Muller, Elder, etc competing for the 5th spot unless AA makes a play for one of the top SP'ers. Bullpen could use a couple arms with Jansen, Matzek both gone or in Matzek's case just out for the year. Our top 6 right now is Iggy, McHugh, Yates, Lee, Minter, with Santana, Anderson competing as well.

Offense we could technically roll with what we have, just adding an outfielder to platoon with Rosario. The SS play is the most interesting question, would AA actually roll with Grissom or Arcia. Or trade for a lesser guy like Rosario who would give Grissom more time in the minors. Dont see Adames as realistic. Our roster is mostly set, but alot depends if AA can trade some guys like Ozuna, Rosario, Pina, etc to free up more cash. Ozuna deal would basically be abad contract swap. Scheff said it awhile ago. We could broke or AA has 30+ million to spend, we really have no idea because there's zero leaks on the Braves end on anything lol.

Trading Ozzie literally makes zero sense. He's on one of the best contracts in baseball the next 4-5 years. There's no trade offer (realistically) that makes any sense moving him especially if we're losing Dansby as well (tbd).

And the idea of losing Freeman, Swanson and Albies would be nightmare fuel for any GM given those are likely the three most beloved Braves players according to casual fans.

I’ve said it before but AA is all about value. If he doesn’t think Swanson will be worth the value of the contract then Swanson won’t be back. Somebody always ends up without a chair and AA can get them on a short deal. On the SS part I expect one of Swanson, Correa, Turner, Adames, Rosario to be at SS when ST rolls around. AA isn’t gonna roll with Arcia/Grissom he’s just saying that so he doesn’t get fleeced.

Oh some 6 weeks ago or so I was booed of this forum by suggesting Albies as a trade chip. Here it is 96 hours away from the winter meeting and Tim Boyle of Fansided says any one of the three 2nd basemen is a potential trade with St Louis. Not 6 hours later MLBTR saying Mariners are looking for a LH hitting 2nd

yikes this an embarrassing way to try and pat yourself on the back.

Tim Boyle, real credible source. Albies isnt getting dealt given how team friendly his deal is. Sure, if Mariners give us Julio, they can have Albies, done deal. Same with St Louis with Arenado.

Do they have a choice if he wants to leave?

Maybe. I don't really think he "wants" to leave. I think he maybe he does have a preference, but he's likely looking for the most money. I just sort of doubt the Mets will let him go to an NL East team if money is the concern.

I dont think the Phillies will be in on DeGrom but i guess you never know. Supposedly years are the Mets concern, been said they dont wanna go to 4 years.
